It's been ages since TFC (our TFC anyway) has been linked to a player. There's useful types in the English lower league who'd fit in in the MLS. If he's not referring to Toronto FC, I wonder who he is referring to? I doubt it's Toulouse. I assume there's lots of team in England that could be abbreviated TFC, but I wouldn't guess they'd be trialing players right now.

^ It is not impossible. Just unlikely, our current lack of form ( yes I know we won last night) does not help.

Well this sucks... A Milan Legend signs with one of my least favourite MLS teams. Reports say its a 2 year deal worth 2 million.

    @MilanDiavolo
Nesta will reportedly fly to US on June 8th for signing with the NYRB. He'll reportedly sign a 2 years contract, which will make him earn 2m

I don't want any players over the age of 30 on this team right now, ESPECIALLY as a DP.

I would kill to have Nesta as a DP - not just for what he could bring to the pitch, but for how Henry would benefit playing with someone like him for the next couple of years.

yep. one of reasons why Omar Gonzalez became so good in such short years is all the mentoring he got from Gregg Berhalter.
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

I've always liked the pairing of a younger more athletic CB with an older more experienced one. Especially if the older one is a leader. You get the best of both worlds. The athleticism of youth, and the experience that comes along with years in the game. I've never like two older or two younger CB's paired together.

There's also a rumor that Ballack might be coming to MLS and Toronto was mentioned.

Nesta is a getting a bit stiff already, I don't think coming to a lesser league will allow the process to slow down, but rather speed up. I'm glad its not with TFC, because if he becomes injured for longer than he plays on the team it will hurt the team.

I was waiting to read the part where it said he would be coming to MLS to play for either NY or LA...found it.
I am startingto get sick of this league and its 2 teams.

Why did Nesta thread get merged into a TFC thread?

More plausible given the Klinsmann connection, same reason Frings ended up coming here.

Plus the amount of games that get played on turf can't help. How many stadiums are turf? 5 not including mont? (Vancouver, Seattle, DC, NE, Portland) Did I miss any?

Aren't Frings and Ballack BFFs? I seem to recall Ballack causing shit when Frings was dropped from the German national team.

If Frings can still go this decent at 35 I'm sure we can get a bit of mileage out of Ballack. Rest of this season + 1 more at most though.

I wonder if it's possible to get Ballack (or any other top quality player) on a pre-DP sort of contract this summer, and then sign him as a DP in the off season. Like what Seattle did to get Rosales even though they already had three DPs

There is no way Ballack could come here this year.

You can't buy out a DP during the season and at the time that JDG's contract is up we won't be able to take any internationals.

Maybe he and Frings would make magic but not until 2013.

    Aha! Good point.

I wonder how that works, would MLS law allow you to have a contract saying 'we will pay you $xxx as a DP next year if you play for $50k this year' ?

Gaming the system to the max if you could, just put in an injury clause that he gets $2m or something if he doesn't get picked up as a DP.

Anyone know? Reading the rules posted online it seems you may be able to do that.

Could we not trade away/release players to make space? Trade them for picks/allocation?

Then sign Ballack to a non DP salary and then make him DP next year when JDG is out? If even needed? I don't even know what he'd command at this point.
