    Default Preseason Start Date?

I've been reading that various teams have already started preseason training. Anyone know when TFC starts? You would think we would have started yesterday seeing as we have a competitive match before all but two other MLS teams.

I think TFC's doing academy trials this week. Players are starting to arrive back here(like Kocic yesterday) and camp starts next week. At least that's what I gather from twitter.

The 23rd is what they said conistently during the off season. If that worries anyone, I think LA's is at least a week after, if not two.

Here are the opening dates for all teams. Collective bargaining rules said camps could not open until January 15. RSL and Philly start the latest.

Some of these start dates are not training start dates though. They are the day players arrive, do physicals, take photos, etc. Actual training may begin a few days later.

    DC: Jan 15
    Chivas: Jan 16
    Montreal: Jan 16
    NE: Jan 16
    NY: Jan 16
    SJ: Jan 16
    Dallas: Jan 17
    Fire: Jan 18
    KKKrew: Jan 19
    SEA: Jan 19
    KC: Jan 20
    LA: Jan 20
    TFC: Jan 23
    Colorado: Jan 23
    Houston: Jan 23
    POR: Jan 23
    VAN: Jan 23
    RSL: Jan 25
    PHI: Jan 25

correction: LA starts preseason on Jan 20. I was looking at their 2011 schedule, when they started on the 24th.

Thanks rocker! I find it a little strange that we are starting almost a week after the majority of teams.

Pre-season is a balancing act. Starting earlier or later in itself doesn't necessarily mean anything.

True, but in our case we have the biggest game in team history coming up and still have a few roster spots to fill. I would have thought we be getting back to it as early as possible so that come March 7th we are prepared.

I don't really know what difference a week would make. I guess it depends on the schedule you have set up for your pre-season. Two good coaches, Jason Kreis and Peter Novak are starting their camps right at the last moment. Maybe they are worried about burnout or feel their teams are pretty much set and don't need a long camp. Montreal, on the other hand, probably feels they need to get started early with all the new faces. LA starts a few days before us, which isn't a big difference. I just hope we avoid injuries.

Also, as I said before, the start date is not always the day they start training. Some teams may call that the "day we take physicals and photos" while other teams may do that stuff before the date listed.

We really should have started earlier.

I don't like that some of the teams in MLS have got the jump on us leading into the season.

Kocic noted in a tweet that he's already training at BMO Field today with other players.

Interesting story on DC having only 16 players in camp. LOL. I thought last year was their rebuilding year. Maybe they should just start their camp at the end of the month when they have 22 players.

Sounds like a Mo Johnston team.
