Default Winter returns to Netherlands for a visit, declines trip to Brazil

News out of the Netherlands is Aron Winter is returning home within the next couple days. He's still a part of the Ajax members council and is voting on some issues there. Apparently he was awarded a trip to Brazil from TFC, but declined so he could attend the meetings.

edit: the trip to Brazil is indeed a TFC club trip as per other articles.

Ajax prefers winter over trip to Brazil

Aron Winter returns next week back in the Netherlands. The former international fly especially for the Members' Council meeting of Ajax from Canada to the Netherlands, reports De Telegraaf.
Winter is Toronto FC coach, he is also member council at Ajax. The former player of Ajax was involved in drafting the new technical plan of Johan Cruyff. Monday the 24 council members vote on whether the club will opt for 'Cruyff camp "or" Camp Ten Have. Winter finds it important to be there.

Winter is the first meeting where he will be present. By liabilities in Canada, he had the previous meetings absent. The season for the Canadian club to an end, so there is now the possibility of winter to attend. The former footballer was awarded a trip to Brazil as technical director of Toronto FC to cancel.

The duel with ex-internationals late winter or pass them by. Members' Council meeting after he returned to Canada in mid-December he celebrated holiday in the country.

So far was winter, together with a group of football players nearly one year ago was elected to the Council of Members, not physically present at the meetings because of Canada's obligations. Now the season is over and until next spring to begin, let Winter Ajax prevail over a trip to Brazil as technical director of FC Toronto.

maybe it's a translation thing... but being "awarded" the trip makes it sound like it's not work.

but hey.... It wasn't work for MoJo, so why would it be work for Winter?

Mo's "scouting trips" to Brazil never turned up anything. Winter going back to the Netherlands may mean him picking up a couple of players to take back with him to Toronto.

I'm not going to look too deeply into this Brazil trip thing right now. I'll start my judgement of him and what he's done in the off-season when I see who he fields in the Disney tournament.

Also - I think it's a good thing that he is on this Ajax board. It'll give him insight into how the club is being run and hopefully he can use this knowledge here in Toronto.

That, and stealing the odd player from them wouldn't hurt either

Guys, don't pay attention to one word in the translation. He was meant to go on a SCOUTING trip to Brazil, but declined (hopefully someone else went instead). That's why it says as technical director, as in as technical director his responsibilities include scouting. A club doesn't reward its management with vacations, he can do that with his own money.

    Big standstill going in Ajax.
There is a standoff of the executive board between Cruyff and a few others versus those who brought in Van Gaal.
Bergkamp is on Cruyff's side and a couple of others vs the boys who brought in VanGaal.
Not sure which side Winter is on but he is going for this crucial vote.

"The former player of Ajax was involved in drafting the new technical plan of Johan Cruyff"
Guess that means he'll be on Cruijff's side

Also it should be noted that this vote could determine the future of the club

I think the future of Ajax lies with Cruyff. With most of the youth academy staff on Cruyff's side I can see Winter being on his side.

Sounds like Winter is supporting Cruyff.

And it looks like he went to Amsterdam in lieu of going to Brazil. Hopefully someone else went in his place.

Here's the original article that the other article is based on.

    Looks as though Cruyff's out:

"Johan Cruyff is poised to lose his role on the supervisory board at Ajax.
The Ajax members' council have called on the five-man board to resign following a dispute which Cruyff at its centre.
A rift between Cruyff, a former player and manager at Ajax, and his four fellow supervisory board members had caused off-field disharmony at the Amsterdam club.
Cruyff will now be expected to make way, together with Edgar Davids, Steven ten Have, Paul Romer and Marjan Olfers, after the powerful council gave the supervisory board a vote of no confidence.
Cruyff said on Monday that he and 10 club coaches would take legal action over the appointments of the former manager Louis van Gaal, Danny Blind and Martin Sturkenboom as directors of Ajax.
Cruyff claims he was not consulted by his board colleagues over the appointments."

Not sure what that means for Winter. From a purely selfish point of view, I hope it further limits his involvement in Ajax. Though if he could bring Bergkamp over as a striker coach......

    The drama continues...

Ajax's board of directors announced their resignation on Wednesday over a disagreement with Johan Cruyff over how the club should be run.
The directors, including the chairman, Uri Coronel, made the announcement this evening at a meeting of the club's council members, a statement on the Ajax website confirmed.
"We are not bigger than Ajax," Coronel was quoted as telling a news conference. "Johan Cruyff is not just anyone. He's a demi-god here or maybe a whole god."
The directors are set to remain in positions until successors are appointed.

This all being said, I'd rather Aron build connections with Ajax that we can potentially exploit... perhaps bring their youth players over hear to gain some experience or sending some of ours over, etc.

Hopefully he's not burning bridges by choosing the wrong side in the squabble.
