    Morning D'.

Unless it is overwhelmingly one way or another, I seriously doubt people's tweets will decide the issue.
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

This might be posted somewhere else, but it's praise of Dero by Backe and Henry.

    WOW!

“With Dwayne you’ve got to use him well. In this league I haven’t seen anybody better than Dwayne de Rosario,’’ said Henry. “It’s easy to say that because he scored 16 and 12, but I saw him in training, I thought he was a decent player in Toronto and when I saw his record _ he’s won four MLS Cups and been in the league for a very long time _ for me he’s the face of this league."

If he was American he would have been the face of the league imo.

It has also been discussed in the MVP thread.

The only thing I will say is that I hope this puts to rest the argument that Backe did not like DeRo. I said it months ago that Backe made the deal because he felt he had to in order to shore up a leaky defense. But with Rost probably gone next year as well as Marquez it's likely Backe is regretting this deal. Either way, when I spoke with the coach, he had nothing but praise for DeRo even back in May. And it never changed.

And yet, you get comments like this from NYRB:

“First of all, he didn’t work on this team. He didn’t score goals. If you look at DeRo, he’s a great player as long as he can have the ball every time he wants to have it,” said Soler. “The short term issue was that we have a great player that didn’t fit the way that we played and he went somewhere where they built the whole team around him.

“He does well and I’m happy for him.”

    Also:

Soler said that De Rosario's agent told him that he didn't plan on playing for Canada again, surprised he went to the Gold Cup. #RBNY

That's actually one of the most succinct, apt descriptions of De Ro's position within a team that I've read. Soler is bang on.
