wow 2016 and things are looking up --- come on you reds lets go
I'm just curious if anyone has an opinion on this.
The 20th team in the league, would the MLS be holding that possible expansion team for a team Beckham? What ever happened to Beckham owning his own club in MLS. I'm sure if I recall correctly it was in his contract that MLS would allow him to seek ownership of a club in MLS and since he is now living in L.A. is that still in the works or was that just put into his contract in case he wanted to become owner of the L.A. Galaxy?
^^
Maybe it's some form of first right of refusal when the option to buy into ownership comes up.
The deal was an option to buy into a new franchise not in New York (which was excluded). Beckham could have bought into Montreal, for example, or Portland.
I suspect he's lost interest. He never exercised his rights, the franchise fee is now $100 million, and Beckham himself seems headed back to Europe.
The franchise option probably became less interesting to him when he got out of youth academy business.
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”
-Eduardo Galeano
Like him or not... his balls exposed this league to the world.
