Default 2011-2012 MLS (non-TFC) off season transfers/rumours thread

To keep track of what's going in rest of the MLS

    http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_b...eing-john.html

Everton and Wigan interested in FCD defender George John, who was linked to Blackburn in the summer. Last year of contract coming up, EU passport. I'd think he'd be sold for around 2 million bucks in winter
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

Bobby Convey NOT returning to the SJ 'Quakes.

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...ng-quakes-2012

he'd be a solid pickup for our left side! Could help mentor Asthone as well as replace Youra (who could then comfortably be released)

^ first you have to ask if he can play in our system. I don't think Winter will be interested in teaching old dogs new tricks.

i'm surprised by this, given the way FC Dallas' defence was completely destroyed by that team they played Tuesday night.

Convey is not a natural left back. he's a left winger and one of better ones in MLS. though he was making 300k or something on salary.

Arsenal to scout Tim Ream. Apparently had a 4 million dollar bid turned down in summer

I don't think Ashtone should be replaced. He should be starting. Plus you don't usually spend 300K on a fullback. At most 150K.

Is this what they are settling on these days?

Ream is a good defender, but he's nowhere near ready to face EPL quality attacking talent on a weekly basis. They'd buy him, realize he doesn't work, then loan him out somewhere else in Europe

Rumor - Impact to sign Super Pippo and/or Luca Toni

    Article from Journal de Montreal:

    http://lejournaldemontreal.canoe.ca/...28-175426.html

    Babel Poisson translation:

MONTREAL - the two Italian attackers Luca Toni and Filippo Inzaghi would be in reflexion to join the club soccer l' Impact of Montreal, which will make its entry in MLS the next season. Whereas the MLS undoubtedly soon will see David Beckham making his luggage to turn over to Europe, two players of the Old continent could traverse the opposite way. L' agent of Toni and Inzaghi, Tulio Tinti, thus revealed on the waves of the 98,5 FM that the two athletes are in the test card of the Impact for its beginnings in MLS. L' agent estimates that if its customers are interested, there are great chances qu' an agreement is concretized. “Luca Toni or Filippo Inzaghi has a certain age and could have a motivation towards this d' kind; experiment. It is necessary that the two parts have the desire of s' to hear. But on our side, I can tell you qu' there would be an interest, it is certain.” Old respectively 35 years and 38 years, Toni and Inzaghi, one hopes, could regard as a pretty challenge an arrival in America. “I believe that it would be a very beautiful experiment for them. To live a football (soccer) different, perhaps to learn a new language and to do something of different qu' they n' ever lived, c' is certainly very interesting. Montreal, c' is a splendid city and I n' would not hesitate to propose with one my customers d' there to go.” The two players did not appear on this subject. But their agent, seems to him already conquered.

I hate to say it, but Luca Toni would be a perfect fit as a DP for Montreal and their fan base. Inzaghi has more star power, but coming off an injury plagued season at the age of 38, I'm not sure if he has anything left in the tank.

had to fix those two words, since you clearly seemed to have typed them out of order.

With the linesmen we have in the MLS, every goal Pippo scores will be ruled offside.

A few years ago Inzaghi would have been perfect

Speaking of poachers ... where's my Ruud van Nistelrooy TFC rumour? I heard he's been spotted in yorkville having dinner with Figo on numerous occasions.

Impact looking for South American players. Sounds like they are being more active than old Mo's Christmastime "scouting trips" to Brazil:

Impact sporting director Nick De Santis and head coach Jesse Marsch haven't been sitting with their feet up waiting for Major League Soccer to come to them.
The two recently completed an 11day scouting trip to South America for players who might be wearing Impact uniforms when the team joins MLS next year.
"We saw a lot of games, probably watched 15 in 11 days," De Santis told The Gazette this week. "We saw a lot of first-team reserve games as well as some Copa Sudamericana games that were going on. Basically, every night we were at a game."
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

Shea is good and does show flashes of some great skill, but I'm not sure if he is EPL level. I think he will a career MLSer, but a very good one.

pippo wont leave italy, its a lifestyle thing, in italy players like this are treated like gods, in toronto people would think he is a junky( so skinny- a fitness freak in real life though)
