I'm disappointed, there was no creativity, Porto Rico came looking for a point and hoping for maybe a chance at goal. Basically played Preki Ball.

What bothers me and concerns me about Our Third Round Chances is simply that in this stage we need to win every game, and we need to be able to stay calm and break through in that situation.

Honduras is a good team, Panama is a good team, and so is Cuba. How are we supposed to go to the fourth round if we can't win all the games now...

Its a tie, from a team trying for a tie and we gave it to them.

We've got 2 more games we need to win both (Mathematically we just need one tie I realize but really to have a qualifing shot we need two win both)

There's too much investment into the has-beens. Those players who are either too old or playing 3rd division football. We should be concentrating on what we're going right and that is youth development. Morgan and Di Chiara should have started. They should have brought in another young player when Johnson got injured. We need more of those under 18 kids in the national fold. It's risky but look at Ghana as an example.

I have no inside information or anything - but from interview clips etc it sounds like they really wanted to clinch the group as early as possible, so they could do exactly what you stated...

Get the vets out, get qualified for the next round, then see the kids and what they can do... Almost a tryout for the next round...

Its a tough place for the manager (when it comes to playing real youngsters). If he starts them and fails - all fingers are pointed at him. If he doesn't start them and fails he can drop the line of 'I played my most internationally experienced squad' etc etc...

Of course the flip-side, you need to play to become experienced...

I agree with you. I want the kids out there. But at this point now, we need to lock up the group before we start changing too much I think...

If we had picked up a win last night and St Kitts had tied (they did), we would have qualified for the next round. Hart could have then run every out every prospect he wanted to for the last two games to cap tie them. As long as we pick up a point down in st kitts, we can still do it in the last game.

Fair enough and certainly Hart is still looking at what is familiar so he can do as well as he can. The issue is that it's affecting his results. What I expect is a balance. There was no sense of raw unpredictable talent that could inspire the team or the crowd and last night was predictable. We played 4-2-3-1, subbed on Ricketts later on. It was way too familiar and PR was well prepared for it.

It's also not like we're playing Mexico here. It's safe to say that Di Chiara and Morgan are miles ahead of anyone from Puerto Rico. I think we would have destroyed St. Lucia regardless.

    Really?

It's the old CFB Downsview.. a Air Force Base? Which was Closed because Rich Yuppies didn't like the noise.

Man, like 300 000 people live within a few KM of that base, rich and poor (maybe it's just me but I don't associate Keele and Wilson/Sheppard with rich yuppies). After 9/11 they had jets taking off/landing there and entire neighborhoods would shake. Military air bases in the middle of a city, not a great idea.

edit: besides, thanks to the Island airport/porter they could fly a trialist in, take a 10 min ferry trip and 5 min walk to BMO to trial. It's not exactly a tough trip

it was closed as part of Cretin's cutbacks in in mid 90s. similar thing happened to other bases in major cities.

part of CFB Downsview is still being used by the military

LA Galaxy defender Gregg Berhalter retiring. TFC should hire this guy as defence coach

I just watched Toronto FC Space on GolTV, it definitely made me laugh when the players were wearing their training clothes with hard hats. It reminded me a little like Fubar 2, if you guys have watched it.

Other than that, I think that training facility is unreal, literally provides some hope for the future of the team and the Canadian youth development. This team in the future will at the very least have one of the biggest football academy's in MLS. I think Aron Winter was very enthusiastic in his interview when he mentioned the progress of the Academy. This team just knows how to keep me glued to the screen.

It was embarrassing how badly the team played last night. Terry Dunfield was once again horrible and literally provided nothing to the team other than an able body. As far as the tactical approach to the game, its obvious that any team that can sit 6 players on defense will be able to break down our attack. The team needed to go on the offense and it played with 6 in the back as well with the 4 defenders and Dunfield and DeGuzman as the holding midfielders. It was quite obvious we would not be able to win playing defensive vs a team playing defensive.

Unfortunately now, the players called up for the first game, will be the same in the camp for the second game. A few prospects, like DiChiara should see time, but a win last night and we could have cap-tied the entire U-20 team next month.

There's actually a bunch of really nice homes right by the landing strip. Although if you were driving on Wilson you would have no clue that they exist.
