Default Updated: Aerospace museum evicted to make way for hockey complex

Aerospace museum evicted to make way for TFC training complex?

Doesn't mention TFC directly but interesting if true. Team is not making many friends these days.

    Nothing to do with TFC.

TFC complex is at least 500 meters south from that building.

Wow...they have a full scale rolling replica of an Avro Arrow there.

I think Bombardier also has offices and (at least) a paint shop at Downsview, as they painted the Arrow.

Is the "large sports complex" the Museums CEO refers to the TFC academy? Or do the Ford bothers want the land for an NFL stadium?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the NFL. We are on deck to move the Bills here as soon as Wilson dies.

I think it is just PR from Museum CEO.Check this map and you will see how far museum is from soccer fields.
Lending strip with parked cars is where TFC is building their facility.

It has nothing to do with TFC or the city.

They are bulding an Ice Complex and Donwsview Parc is a crown corporation. The land is a former Canadian Forces base and is property of the Federal government.

Just read these two bolded parts of the article together - and then laugh along with me...

"The Canadian Air and Space Museum, located at Downsview Park, has received an eviction notice from its landlord after falling $100,000 behind on its rent, according to ctvtoronto.ca. The museum’s CEO, Robert Cohen, said they were not expecting the notice and museum..."

You're $100,000 behind on rent/payments and you didn't expect action to be taken...???? LOL

pretty sure fords nfl stadium is now planned for the portlands...nevertheless, putting an nfl stadium in needs to be built with multi-purpose intentions...ie. FIFA World Cup, Olympics combatability (for track)...but the idiots running this city would never figure that out

yup, the dude who leads Downsview Park said they are making room for a four pad hockey complex. They said they want more people to come to Downsview Park and hockey will do that (and hockey will probably pay its rent).

I was surprised their rent was in the tens of thousands per month. I wondered what TFC's deal costs per month.

To be honest, shit not given®. If a bunch of Torontonians had never heard of it, it's not worth the space.

^ I'm assuming the TFC deal will be full of tax-write offs, there are a lot of "community based" projects at work there.

Since it is established it's for a hockey rink, this thread has run it's course.
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
