Reds Lose at RSL - Back Down To Earth
http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/03/downtoearth/
Toronto FC crashes back to earth after a rough 3-0 defeat in Salt Lake City Saturday night. In this post game video blog I take a brief look back at the match and some of the apparent weaknesses the loss exposed (Bloom and Orr come immediately to mind).
I also try to explain why we should not jump off tall buildings after just one game nor should we be exalting after the first two results either in retrospect. Finally I try and explain how the loss shows that the DP signings and new players coming in can only partially make up for seven previous seasons of gross ineptitude - and that there is still a ways for TFC to go.

TFC Put The Boots To The Crew
http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/20...s-to-the-crew/
In this post game video blog I take a look back at TFC's surprising short-handed victory over Columbus that saw just about every Toronto player exceed expectations in a 2-0 result. I also take a look at some suprisingly creative tactical innovations/selections from Mr. '4-4-2' Nelsen that worked quite well and I try and put this unprecedented nine points - two shutouts - two road wins season start into some sort of historical context.

Loved the latest one, on the loss against RSL, btw; the reaction to "The FC" got me. xD
Today's strip is so true. So very true.

Shorthanded Reds Lose A Squeaker to Rapids
http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2014/04/shorthanded/
In spite of an eye opener type of performance for youngster Kyle Bekker a shorthanded Toronto FC lost at home to Colorado 1-0 this past Saturday. In this video blog I lament in advance the impact on TFC of the World Cup, I take a more detailed look at the solid performance of the aforementioned Kyle Bekker & I tee up the tough road game ahead in Dallas. Finally I try and take a look at the first five games played for TFC and try and place a 3-0-2 start in some sort of context.

Toronto FC: a discarded XI

An XI made up solely of former TFC players who are still active in MLS. Not surprisingly, they'd give the current side a run for their money...
Canadians coaching abroad: the round-up
http://majorliguesoccer.com/2014/04/...road-round-up/
Canadian-born Dwight Lodeweges was forced to resign from SC Cambuur after club ultras stormed the training ground, and that got me thinking about the various coaches and others working in footy abroad with Canadian connections. Here's a look at their recent activity.

Thanks for reading. I wish Laba never had to leave, but there's a case for Avila as well, doing alright at RB for Chivas this year. Gordo would definitely be a bonus with Dike out. Gotta love Plata too, even if he wouldn't work in the formation we're going for now.
Newest: When West Ham nearly won the NASL
http://majorliguesoccer.com/2014/04/...-won-the-nasl/
Recapping a mad NASL opening season in 1969 when West Ham and their three World Cup winners played as Baltimore and Wolves played as Kansas City Spurs (confused yet?).
I love the old NASL history, it was truly bizarre.
I didn't really start following North American pro soccer until my dad showed me Pele playing on TV. By the time I was old enough to really start seriously following it on my own, the NASL folded.
I started following MLS in 2005. It felt like a strange insider discovery in those MLS 1.0 days "say did you know that the U.S. has a pro league?" The league had close to zero profile. I chose DC United as my favourite team, and they played fairly decent possession football. I was planning to go to a match in DC in 2006, when the TFC announcement came, and I threw my support to our own team.

MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
For sure - there was virtually no exposure in Canada, aside from the occasional All-Star game or MLS Cup final (De Ro in overtime, anyone?). I "supported" San Jose due to a friend there and the Canadian connection, playing as them in FIFA etc, but that was obviously abandoned as soon as TO arrived on the scene.
Anyways, the latest from Major "Ligue" Soccer:
Copa América 2016 set for the US - but what does Canada need to do to qualify?
