    TFC And The Un-Magnificent Seven

    http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/20...n-magnificent/

TFC's shambolic defense is giving up a goal every 40 minutes in league play. I take a look at the scale of the problem for TFC at the Centre Back position after another loss, this time in Montreal versus the Impact.

off for a few days around montreal, but here's my latest, looking at the return of frings and cann, and just why we need them back, as shown in various different ways against Montreal.

    and

a short play (yep!) dealing with the trials and tribulations of a TFC supporter.

That's the best piece I've read on TFC in a long time Darlo. Written by anyone not just bloggers.

The problem with corners though is that it seems that more half the time the kick is short or long. Most of the time it is short it isn't by design either, the player simply isn't kicking it far/high enough. When we get a corner we really need to get the ball in a dangerous area where our players can actually get to it.

I'm more forgiving when it comes to crosses (though we should still get more chances out of them). Crosses are often on the run, with only one or two targets in the box.

If they aren't able to hit 5 or 6 guys in the box with a dead ball on a corner how can you expect them to connect with one or two on the run?

thanks stoufville , and yeah, corners have been consistently poor, and I feel like it's always been that way for TFC, when was the last time we had a reliably good corner taker? as for crosses, it's definitely harder, but the more targets you can have, the easier it gets. the recent uber defensive formation is necessary at the back, but we need to get a bit of balance back there, frings and or cann coming back should help the defence stand on it's own two feet so we can committ more to the attack. hopefully.

How you doin'? Conversation with chivas blogger. looking at which chivas is real, the one that's lost 3 games at home, or the one that's won in salt lake and portland. which of their new players has had the biggest impact, and how labrocca and and ante jazic are doing so far this year.

Default Rollins: Smoke and fire at Toronto FC

    http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/co...-at-Toronto-FC
So with some reluctance, this is what’s being suggested now:

All of this is based on conversations I’ve had with several MLS and TFC sources.

It’s being suggested that there is a fatal conflict between Paul Mariner – and those within the organization that have a MLS or English background – and Aron Winter, along with the Dutch thinkers. There is a personality conflict involved, but the root of the issue is about player personal decisions.

For simplicity sake let’s call the divide the 4-3-3 idealists versus the MLS pragmatists.

The MLS pragmatist’s suggestions are being mostly ignored (either literally, or being brought in only to rot on the bench) while players that the 4-3-3 idealists favour -- that the MLS pragmatists have no time for -- are consistently starting.
More at the link. Looks like there's a rift in the front office and some serious differences in opinion. Could get ugly.

Merged into blogs thread. CSN is a blog.

I know most people here don't like him as he's anti-RPB, but he has been covering this story for weeks on his podcast.

I'd rather have the 4-3-3 idealists, but we seriously need to get wins now.

Let me guess: Winter blames Mariner for Iro. Mariner blames Winter for everything else.

It sounds like a classic old school vs. new school mash up. One is a little bit country and the other is a little bit rock 'n' roll.

Paul Mariner is the old school, 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 guy. I dont know exactly what formation that Mariner was used to coaching in New England or what his preference was at Plymouth Argile.

Aron Winter is the new school, 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 guy.

So, maybe they could meet half way and play the formation that they both could agree on that has width and style. Like the 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1. So with that said they need to find two defensive midfielders and a centre back.

It just keeps coming up ... the headline of the article sounds apt.

Really, TFC still needs a better talent sherpa in south america, regardless of who is in charge and what their philosophy is.

    BANG ON!

That is the stuff about MLSE that really pisses me off, scouting has nothing to do with your cap, you can spend $100m on scouting if you wanted to, why are they not spending just a BIT more, $500k TOPS, and scouting more in S. America, Africa and Asia?

Content has to be filled I suppose.
