Apologies to the mods if this isn't deemed the right section of the board, but Bill Simmons latest podcast (July 3rd) features a conversation with ESPN's Rob Stone and they discuss:

    -the MLS All-Star Game
    -Toronto FC's support
    -David Beckham
    -Euro 2008
    -MLS player development
    -MLS stadium development

    Take a listen here:

The part you want to hear starts about the 17 minute mark.

Bill Simmons is a good guy. He wrote a great column a while back about chosing a random EPL team (as a guy who seems to like soccer but had no idea about the sport).

Just goes to show you can apply good journalism to just about anything.

I could do without his constant Boston love, but do like his style of working in pop culture references and crazy analogies.

Basically the guy bill simmons is talking too, says toronto is a beautiful city, and our support is border line european. Personally, i dont think it is, we have a lot of work to reach the standards of the teams like marseille, man utd, dinamo zagreb, arsenal, liverpool, barcelona, ac & inter milan. We're getting pretty close to teams from east euro countries like poland, czech republic, ukraine.

That, and he told Simmons he has to go to the All-Star game to experience that crowd. I was waiting for Simmons to ask why when ASG's are typically all corporate schmoozefests but he never jumped on that one.

I have been reading Page 2 stuff for years, especially TSG. I even emailed him a while back inviting him to a game.

On some things, he has an open perspective. But in others, you just can't beat the American out of him completely.
