    Post Officiating in MLS: Interesting Stats

    This was brought to my attention by someone else on the board. As found on Big Soccer.....

    The percentiles are constructed from the sample of "veteran refs" (guys w/ at least 50 games experience).

    G = Games
    Y = Yellow Cards
    SY = Second Yellow Card resulting in a Red Card
    R = Red Card
    PK = Penalty Kick
    ?/G = Per Game

    "Failure simply isn't an option at this stage. TFC pushed its chips to the middle of the table when it splurged on Bradley and Defoe and reinforced its bet by making savvy acquisitions elsewhere. This collection of players is capable of delivering on the promises made during the close season. There are no more excuses available for TFC. Only success will continue the process of atoning for the past and establishing a higher standard for the future." FOX Sports

    The level of inconsistency is appalling.

    Toledo (MLS' worst ref) is leading on all counts.

    I would prefer someone in the middle, not on either extreme (too many calls, too few calls). Too many, and the ref is the star of the show. Too few, and players start running roughshod over each other.

    Teams that are wise will post this chart in their dressing room. If you have Toledo or Vaughn, play very carefully.
    MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

    its true and it isnt.
    this is every league in the world, some refs are genuinely more strict than others, so some players know better than others. but i agree, there is a certain level of inconsistency between the refs.

    Alex Prus and Michael Kennedy (the midget) are probably the only two refs I have any respect for in this league. But Kennedy was suspended one year for lack of fitness. haha.

    You know, watching Houston vs. KC tonight somebody at face value might say: the ref gave out two red cards, something wrong there.

    But seeing the decisions, I think he got the decisions right. The inconsistancy is frustrating but on some levels we've got the players to match the officials because they do things that are outright stupid and can't understand the consequences.

    Love the 0.50 red card per game after 24 games ref. Baldomero's cousin?

    Poor refereeing is the worst part about MLS.
    Inconsistancy and bad calls continue to fuck games up.

    The inconsistency of the play is a big factor. Inconsistent talent levels, inconsistent standards, inconsistent reffing.
