TFC played well on Saturday, but I think the Whitecaps gifted the game when they subbed Jay DeMerit aka the captain, aka the dp.

BTW, I dont know if this has been mentioned before but I have to ask whether the signing of Torsten Frings means the departure of DeGuzman or do we switch to a 4-3-3 with a point forward or 4-2-3-1?

DeMerit is not a DP. I think he's making around 300k. I believe he was subbed out b/c he wasn't 100 match fit.

I expect Tchani and Frings to play DM/CM while JDG plays AM... unless there is another twist to this story lol. Cann is out for the season with an injury

I was wondering whether it would be best to have JDG, Tchani, or Frings as a AM, but I think the best dribbler of the ball might be Frings. Then agains a DM playing AM? Whether its JDG or Frings doesnt sit well with me.

Agreed. Though I think it makes more sense to play Frings at DM a la Pirlo role with Tchani being the muscle CM and JDG playing at AM seeing where their relative talents seems to indicate. Or just take out JDG and put Zavarise instead.

Curious to see if we are in any position to get either one of these guys as well as whether we will keep them.

“That’s for all the fans, not just the most vocal section, we all know that they’re just as important whether they’re in 103 or 108, it doesn’t really matter,” Gargan told the Sun.

“We all wanted to share that with them because we all know how important that support is.

“They work almost as hard as we do on the field. They’re singing and dancing all game long so they deserve that just as much.”

“We stopped playing a little bit. Over the course of the next 70 minutes, they became men and we became boys,” added Cannon, the keeper.

“They wanted it more ... they out-fought us, out-hustled. Maybe it was the crowd that lifted them but, whatever. It was just really kinda gut-wrenching, because we knew this was our season, and to see guys just ... I don’t want to say or call anyone out, but they were going through the motions ... We were second best.”

According to the list at the link above:

    1. D.C. United
    2. Chivas USA
    3. Philadelphia Union
    4. New England Revolution
    5. Houston Dynamo
    6. Toronto FC
    7. Chicago Fire
    8. Sporting Kansas City
    9. Seattle Sounders
    10. Columbus Crew
    11. New York Red Bulls
    12. Real Salt Lake
    13. San Jose Earthquakes
    14. LA Galaxy
    15. FC Dallas
    16. Colorado Rapids
    17. Vancouver Whitecaps (acquired Jay DeMerit)
    18. Portland Timbers (acquired Kenny Cooper)

We'd be in 5th place in contention for these two players since DC used their spot on Davies.

EDIT: The four teams ahead of us are pretty desperate for players so I don't see us even having a chance at either of Soony or Eddie

Cannon's inability to read simple long balls, crosses and bounces didn't help their cause either. He needs to take a look in the mirror after that performance. Unless one of the guys he "didn't want to call out" was himself.

I think for the weighted lottery its different. Two other GAs came in this year - some teams didn't want to be part of the weighted lottery as they were hoping for someone better if I remember correctly. TFC was not in either of them.

Aren't we in 4th? New England took Feilhaber earlier!

EDIT: We may be 3rd. Philly took Chris Agorsor just recently.

this is correct. I'd pass on EJ though. He's all athletics, not enough footy brains. Plus haven't played much in last 3 years

After reading your link I would say were in 4th becasue the weighted lottery is different then the list that I posted which is for players returning to MLS after a stint abroad.

So Soony is also in the lottery which we could opt in for, and Eddie would have to be turned down by the three teams ahead of us on the list that I posted.

Fackin MLS rules are so convoluted....

Saad might be on Winter's radar. He's young and could easily be groomed into what's needed. Interesting to see if he gets to us.

These could be guys worth capturing, if only to pad a deal for a CB (from within the league, of course).

it's a big question mark. I'd like to think EJ's pedigree has enough MLS GMs willing to give up something good for him but MLS is a different beast than when EJ left in 08.

though there aren't many MLS CBs I think would fit TFC right now, esp with apparently no more international spots? so it'd have to be Hainault or Jakovic or someone of similar calibre

If one paper can have an accuracy of +/-3000, then it makes me really question the data gathering / accuracy of the info the club is releasing

TFC scouts looked at Univ of Michigan last season. Meram was the main interest I think, everyone assumed that Soony would stay at U of M along with his brother Mamood, but likely there's some notes about Soony in the file. Now whether those scouts are still on staff or not, who knows. I'd be over the moon if we got Saad somehow. I saw him play a bunch last year, a very exciting player. I suspect the European trials didn't work out for reasons not entirely related to ball skill issues, more related to some bad advice from people around him. Can't say for sure, just some scuttlebutt I've heard locally.
