If he does sign here, can they announce it now or do they have to wait to officially announce it on july 15th?
There should be nothing stopping them from announcing it. He can't play until the MLS transfer window opens, but there are no regulations on announcements. If I recall correctly, we have announced players in this way before.Originally Posted by habstfc

Funny how there only seems to be one header in that entire clip from such a tall guy.
Just found out why his goal production was down last season. In September 2009 he suffered a bruised chin and missed 9 days of action.. In January 2010 he suffered a fractured wrist and missed 6 weeks.. Then in march of 2010 he suffered a damaged heal and missed another 20 days.
Looks to me like he was a little unlucky and fell out if favor with the first team...
Still managed to play in 22 matches and tally 11 goals the following season in 2011 got less playing time. I think hes going to be twice the hassli and a fan fav ... YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

^ He did score over 20 goals in 55 games or so when first on loan to the Sounders. That's not a bad record by any stretch.

To further that, I looked back at the montero threads and I didn't see that number in there anywhere. Some people went mid to high teens. He scored 12 goals and did well. The debate generally seemed reside around whether he'd be a star, I think it's easy to say which side won that argument. I think the point lost on a lot of people is that Montero had a pedigree coming in 95% of the other south americans do not have.

I was standing just inside gate 2 with my daughter and didn't have a chance to pull out my phone to snap a pic but Earl Cochrane came through the doors followed by Koevermans in a pink tshirt and "euro hipster" jeans, followed by what looked to be a of couple agents and Paul Mariner bringing up the rear. Everyone was quiet while waiting in the lobby for the elevator. Seemed tense.
I knew instantly it was Koevermans but did a quick google search just to confirm it.

I think the only way he can start earlier is if he wasn't under contract at the end of the European season.
That would make sense...or as much sense as can be derived from the kooky MLS rules.

I believe he is out of contract, so Mariner better sign him quickly so Winter can get him into the lineup in time for the NCC Final!
I don't think he can play until July 15, even if he is already out of contract.
Besides, I'm sure the CSA won't allow a recently signed player into the competition.
It doesn't matter that he is out of contract, it matters when he was out of contract.
I think this is more on FIFA than MLS. Although I don't know why the MLS transfer window opens on July 15 as opposed to July 1 with the rest of the world. I guess it has to do with the fact that the MLS winter window is up to April 15.
