Default TFC to unveil Frings, Koevermans as newest signings, Winter not out

    This sounds interesting....

Koevermans close to signing with TFC

Published on 06-27-2011 10:20 PM Comments
A Dutch news source is reporting that PSV striker Danny Koevermans is flying to Toronto today (Tuesday) to meet with TFC. It's expected that the striker will sign a contract with the club.

He's out of contract at the end of the month and does not require a transfer fee.

In the report, Koevermans says that he is looking to move to MLS to escape the media attention in Holland. He was linked to Birmingham City, but interest there waned after the club dropped to the Championship.

There is no word on what terms TFC is willing to give Koevermans, but he is expected to command a low-end DP salary.

    Please let this be true...

Super excited. According to wiki, he has 4 caps at the senior international level.

That means he's twice as good as Mista!

He does realize the Championship is a better league than MLS, right?

Yes but Spain is better than Holland, so Mista's 2 caps for Spain is worth Koeverman's 4 caps for Holland.

It also has match congestion the whole season and is extremely physical. It`s a hard league on the body. Sigh, we're a retirement plan again.

Great news. I just wiki'd the guy's career numbers, you have to figure that he's good for 10-15 goals if healthy over a 34-game schedule for another 2-3 years. IF he pans out, obviously, and doesn't view this as a retirement tour.

He'll take a DP slot obviously, but who cares? We'll still have two left once DeGuz leaves this offseason.

Birmingham's manager resigned and moved to their local rivals Aston Villa who are in the Premiership and are usually in Europa League qualification sort of territory. Next guy in the Birmingham City job will have a different set of signing targets, while Alex McLeish may also have adjusted his plans due to (this could make me very unpopular with some people ) being at a larger club now.

Most definitely. But I'm pretty sure that part of the reason for coming here is also for a different lifestyle. Sure, the media does look at TFC, but it's nothing compared to what he's used to. He'll be able to go out, take his kids to movies, go to restaurants, and not have to worry about rowdy football fans who may support "the other team in town". The "worst" he'll have to deal with is some random TFC supporter wanting to shake his hand. Also, he'll get a good pay cheque. Sounds like a good decision to me.

I suppose you didn't read the qualifier I included right after that sentence, huh?

The thing is, I didn't necessarily see the second part of your statement as a qualifier for the first.

Even if he does take it seriously, that doesn't mean he can produce a high goal scoring rate as there must be a reason for there being little interest out there for his services at higher levels. His goal scoring rate fell off last year. Maybe that had something to do with his minutes and the way they utilized him, but he may not be capable of putting up a high goal total in MLS, even if he fits in and works hard.

Pfft, They're better but there's not that huge of a difference. The difference between the top 2 or 3 teams in the world is a mistake or two a game.

Regardless, I predict Danny will score 2 goals for TFC, both in CONCACAF play.

    Why?

    Well, 2 x 0 = 0
    2 x 1 = 2

Twice the player that Mista was.

    You heard it here first.

From Holland I congratulate you with this transfer

Proven goalscorer, works hard for the team. He's the Eredivisie equivalent of Alan Gordon (with twice the goals scored) but was not happy at PSV, usually used as a late game substitute.

Danny Koevermans was a fan's favourite in his Sparta and AZ years. The fan's always chanted his name using the chorus from this song by Boney M:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5gNYVia2rg

Instead of 'Daddy Cool', they sang 'Danny Koef' (phonetic: 'danny koof')

So, I hope he'll be very happy in Toronto, for a happy Danny Koevermans guarantees you a lot of goals and a hard working spirit...

    Greetings from The Hague.

if he brings a strong work ethic on the field that's a good start. He will need it with this team.

If this signing happens I just hope it pans out to the level a signing like Ecks has. We need a few more signings like that for this team.

Looking forward to seeing what dude can bring to the team. If Mariner and Winter think hes worthy, then I feel like something is there. Lets get a creative mid, a CB and a LB next!

Are we planning to move to a 2 striker system?

Don't get me wrong, I want the team to improve at each position if it can. But if this moves comes to fruition it means less playing time for our 2 other only real scoring options, Gordon and Santos. Both Gordon and Santos are having career years.

Koevermans has the potential to fill a significant void in TFC's lineup as injuries have left the squad thin up front.

Next up, a solid attacking midfielder...

how do we get him the ball? our defense sucks, and the midfield can't get the ball up. Gordan and Santos aren't miracle workers, but they do score when given the chance. I have a feeling this new guy will be in the same boat.

I agree, I see that as the same stumbling block.

For anyone who watched the gold cup, I think Ramon Nunez would be a good target. Attacking mid who can spread the ball around, has played in MLS before ... currently on the books at Leeds but he was loaned to Scunthorpe. Mid 20's ....

I wouldn't assume this is the only signing of the window.

Gordon also holds the ball up up front which allows other players to come into the play more. That is one of, if not the reason we are a better team with him in it. If Koverman's holds the ball well, this will be good.
