    Default Andrea Lombardo Appreciation Thread.

Borrowing a meme from the excellent Raptors RealGM board.

I'll remember a few things about Andrea:

    i) How exciting it was when he was signed that there was finally a Canadian team giving young Canadian kids a chance. I remember being upset that Dichio was signed because it meant that Lombardo wouldn't start.

ii) The LAG game when he was still a player with 'potential', and he played quite well, and almost, almost, scored a goal, but it was cleared off the line at the last moment (I believe the game ended up 0-0). I've always wondered what would have happened to his career had that goal gone in. He likely won't have a chance that good again in the MLS.

iii) My wondering was lessened during the midst of the horrible, horrible goalless streak when Lombardo and Samuel were completely inept up front after the all-star break. Lombardo's nadir was when the team was down in Dallas, Lombardo got sent in all alone and horribly flubbed a wrong-footed half-volley onto the interstate with no one pressuring him. He was subbed off immediately after despite the fact that there were no real strikers on the bench. That was certainly the beginning of the end for Andrea.

iv) Like David Guzman before him, Andrea was never afraid to exploit his tenous professional status to the hilt, whether out on the town, or on his countless appearances at Foot Lockers and Adidas outlet stores up and down the 401.

Farewell, Andrea, I can't say I'll miss you, and you were kind of an asshole on the field, taking out your frustration on the referees, linesmen and others, but, well, it was real.

Good on ya, I think the writing was on the wall for this one for a long time coming. Hemming granted was a knee-jerk thing.

Remember the Lombardo song? LOL! what did he do to deserve that? besides crossing the ball for Edu in that game against Chicago that we spanked em at home 3-1 LOL(home opener) I remember people had high hopes for him due to that play that day.... But then...w ell you know what happened.

well... he nicely set up Edu for that 3rd goal on that memorable May 12 game against Chicago.
That's probably my favourite memory of Lombardo.

I'd rather have seen him come in than Cunningham some times this year.

Looks like he'll be looking for trials in Europe. Hopefully he finds a good situation and who knows - he might get a second go around with his home team.

If he wasn't really fitting into the plans of Carver this year, and wasn't getting the development needed in reserves games (which are apparently shit) he may as well try to find a better situation.

    Best of luck Andrea!
