id be a bit disappointed if we traded Williams, hes shown to be decent and i think would play well with a commanding CB at very least great for depth. Id be a bit surprised if we rid of him that quickly especially as we need more dudes in his position right now

Elbekay Bouchiba will probably be released too, don't forget, so there's another int. spot

Trade Peterson. I'm sure he has value in MLS. I know people knock him regularly on here, but he was a starting and relatively well-regarded Generation Adidas player (92 games) with Colorado. I think we can survive without him. Package him with a first round pick for a solid CB.

Can you release a guy when he's on injured reserve?

I know with other sports you can't.

You can't, the CBA prevents it.

    That's what I figured.

But can you free up a spot if you put a guy on LTIR (long term injured reserve)?

Perhaps Gordon packaged with a 1st round pick would be enough to acquire the coveted CB that this team desperately requires.

On another note, if Williams and Attakora are close to returning to the lineup, I think they can form a very reliable tandem as a central defence pairing.
Gordon has a much better all-around game than Santos and I'd take an oft-injured Alan Gordon in that one any day. Santos has decent work ethic, passes ok and has a rocket for a foot, but his read of the game and decisions are often really poor. Gordon is a much better link if you're playing a 433, and more like Koevermans as a backup.

Plus Santos has potted some decent goals this year and would probably be more attractive in a deal. Then we need a third, young striker to understudy the other two.

If we get rid of Gordon, who will be backup for Koevermans given how extremely important it is to have a target ST in a 4-3-3?

I like Gordon, and I agree that he has a better read of the game, but is it worth keeping him strictly as a backup? Santos is a game breaker, and he can still feature in the starting lineup alongside Koevermans. Based on the current roster situation, if TFC had to move a striker, I think I would rather give up Gordon, who still has decent trade value, in an effort to shore up the backline.

Gordon is injury prone, no? I think Gordon has more value than Santos in MLS so it's better we trade Gordon so we get some valuable back in return.

Don't think either of them would bring much. Santos is an international, don't forget.

So Frank Rost is officially the first DP goalkeeper to be signed in MLS. Rost is a veteran world class keeper, but some New York supporters feel their 3rd DP slot was wasted at that position.

I would disagree. It seems success can come if you throw money at that position to get someone who's solid and has lots of experience. E.g. Mondragon and Keller.

Also with a GK, that's one position where you can go older.

That is correct. You free up a roster space, but you still take the cap hit for the injured player.

I have not read anything about the length of contract. Seems to me if they sign him for this year and next only, and the team wins the MLS cup with Rost playing a role then it is likely worth it. If they don't win it all, then it is a waste.
