Dunfield then leapt over the BMO Field barrier and into the outstretched arms of Canadian supporters in the south grandstand as six of his teammates followed him.
    Good thing Toledo wasn't ref.

Again, why havn't we given Ricketts a call yet? Second Division Romania, we honestly can't pick him up?

I'm sure he could attract attention here for a few years, and be picked up and sent back to Europe no problem if he plays well. (Example: Edu who i realized played like shit most of the time, and i don't know why my Scottish champions ever picked him up really, but you don't hear me complaining aslong as he's helping them beat Celtic.)

His team actually qualified for the Champions League after finishing 2nd in Romania's top division this season.

Only recently have they have been placed in the 2nd division for financial reasons, and they have also been booted out of the Champions League.

I wonder if that makes him a free agent?

Great game of footy last night. Great game! Good result for Canada. I think it will give them some confidence going into the Gold Cup. They went toe-to-toe with a soccer nation and didn't break.

Love how he's like "We'll totally expect that in CONCACAF."

But really, that's the type of stuff we have to do to win. If you want to beat the Latin sides, you gotta outsmart them. Whether it be diving, quick free kicks, whatever. If they want to start shenanagins, you gotta be one step ahead. That's how to beat these guys.

Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, none of you are as good as Ecuador. Notice has been served.

It was a good game. But a great result? Aren't Ecuador ranked similarly to Canada..if so, it's an ok result at best I think.

I wouldn't read too much into the rankings. I don't know why Ecuador is ranked 64th. They have made it into 2 of the past 3 World Cups and were battling for the last remaining CONMEBOL spot with.....Uruguay, the eventual semi-finalists.

They are a true-blue soccer nation and we could have easily expected to lose. The fact that we didn't is a good sign for our team.

I was just going to say this as well.......one shouldn't see the FIFA rankings as the be all and end all when determining strength of opposition. I was fully expecting to see a very tough match....and was impressed that the CMNT stepped up to the plate for this one.

great game last night, and thank you not only to those in the 112/113, but every Canadian who showed up in their red and white... Because I had my daughter with me, I sat in the 120 section surrounded by yellow, but we waved our scarves proudly. and was so excited to see them tie it up late...

They're ranked 64 because the FIFA rankings count 4 year cycles only - meaning what happened 5 years ago doesn't count.

In the last WCQ, they had pretty shitty management and as a result they underperformed. Ecuador is a very strong side. I'd put them ahead of virtually every CONCACAF side save for Mexico and the US.

Also, when you play in CONMEBOL, you play in the most competitive region in the World. You cannot avoid playing any nation in the region in WCQ. So this will undoubtedly negatively impact your ranking. This is not so with Africa, Europe or Asia.

In related/unrelated TFC news, Ruud van Nistelrooy has signed with Malaga.

Hopefully this can end speculation about him coming here.

Then again, it will spark speculation about other players. LOL

True. I mean your rating will suffer when going up against nations like Brazil and Argentina on a regular basis where there will be more negative results than if they played CONCACAF nations on a regular basis where they would likely have signficantly more postive results.

Either way, it only matters if you really view rankings as important, which I do not. FIFA rankings are ridiculous, most people know it. We simply have to refer to them because they're they only measure we have.
