thats the point of it, while one of the worlds biggest tournament was held, he turned to beckham....even Sports Illustrated didnt even write a STORY, of the Euro 2008. Word! Rome is great. Sure he's anti-soccer but he does it in a satirical way...its almost like he talks like a guy immitating someone who hates soccer. Also, he admitted in the clip to not watching it ever and not caring for it.
It's not like he claims to be the "all powerful sports god" like that fuckhead Wilbon, calling a sport "bush league"....Rome just makes it clear he does not like the sport while poking some fun at it.
I really don't care what he says about soccer, errrr football. He has a huge fanbase, and his soccer rants are part of that whole image.
Most of the time his show is hilarious, and very often his interviews are off the chart. Some of the best intervies I've ever heard were on his radio show. Evel Knievel, Joe Simpson (author of Touching the Void), Steve Elkington and others. Its one of the only shows that can have you splitting a gut laughing one minute and sitting in the car 5 minutes after arriving somewhere because the interview is too damn good to miss.
Sure, the clone thing and the jungle thing gets a bit much sometimes, but look at it for what it is, ENTERTAINMENT. Plain and simple.
I'm not go off on a rant calling him names and making unfounded accusations just because he disses soccer.

Let's face it ... he is probably the typical every-man from the United States of America. Most Americans don't regard soccer as a real sport. If they aren't good at it, they don't care about it. If their league is not the best in the world, it doesn't matter.
Jimmy can stick to NASCAR and the NFL and he can think that's the "world's game" whilst we enjoy the real deal.

I have hated Jim Rome since Sportsnet used to show his show back in like 1997. He is so annoying. He tries to talk like hes 14 years old or something with all of his 'smack'. Its so irritating.
Anyway, for anyone who doesnt remember, heres Jim Rome being a tough guy.
The guy is a douchebag of the highest order and its got nothing to do with his opinions on soccer (Bob McCown hates soccer but I still think hes the best sports radio personality in Canada). Its all about professionalism, or in Jim's case, the lack threreof.

I never watch Jim Rome. I'm too busy watching Sky Sports News and BBC America. Jim is exactly what ESPN wants and needs to keep their demographic happy. Watchers of ESPN don't want soccer they want AMERICAN sports with AMERICANS winning AMERICAN games or someone elses. I've seen it a thousand times (especially during the Olympics), if an American team is in the final tey'll cover it, if not there's always World Tour Poker to air.
Soccer has no room in the ESPN home, their more likely to be put in the garage. Only thing missing from ESPN's lineup is NASCAR.
Romey has lost a lot of cred -- the immaturity factor of the Jungle only lasted a year before I got bored and went far, far away.
