    Mornin' D

why does everyone keep saying we are demanding a playoff spot this year?! Are the journos asking their 7 year old kids?

“You know, if you want to reach the top you need to know the basic things – they are the most important things,” Winter says. “If you can’t give a normal pass or deliver a good cross or you’re not good with your left or right [foot], or your head or whatever, if you don’t have that under control then you’re never going to be complete and a good soccer player. It’s the same as when we’re born, the first thing we have to teach is to [crawl] on the ground before we can take our first steps.”

Does he mean sick as in good or sick as in bad? For example does Winter mean "Patience dudes... we are gonna have a sick team very soon!"

Here's an interesting quote from Garber from the ESPN interview responding to a question about DPs:

"But on an isolated basis, I don't believe the league office should be dictating to the clubs whether they should nor should not sign a player."

But haven't they been doing just that, refusing to 'upgrade' certain domestic players, like De Ro, to DPs?

Or did Seattle manage to change their minds on it with the upgrade of Freddy Montero?

    Agreed.

That was precisely the mentality we needed from day one.

Instead we were happy to lift plugs and stiffs to levels befitting heroes.

See: Wall of fame and MVP selections.

Seriously though....a very simple litmus test for all TFC players.

Can you both, receive and give a pass with both feet?

    If not.....bye bye.

Prominent TFC players that would have failed this test:

    J Brennan (left foot only)
    Carl Robinson (right foot only)
    Marvell Wynne (no foot only)

Also...I would imagine that the bullshit long throw into the box will be gone as a strategy this year. At least I hope it will.

I'm really interested to see what we're going to look like tomorrow.

Reading the article, Winter never says the team is sick. That was an editorialized comment. All Winter said was that patience was needed. Terrible headline.

In all fairness to the supporters - we supported who we were given. I questioned some of the choices for "heros" as well - Dan Gargan, Alecko Eskandarian etc.

As for the wall of fame - I'm happy having Dichio up there - Jimmy B not so much.

I think that counts as a pun for people that don't know the difference between patience and patients

Yeah, because the SSG certainly doesn't look all that attractive when she's trying to catch things with that net

I agree. I have no problem with the headline if it's "Patience needed for sick team". But when it starts with "New TFC coach says" it makes it seem like Winter said everything after that text.

Anyone reading that headline will assume at first glance that Winter is quoted as saying "patience is needed. Our team is sick." or something similar.

I should also state that I'm getting more and more annoyed by mis-leading headlines, but I guess that's what we get in the internet age when all that matters is page hits, not whether someone actually reads the article.

    Fair enough.

If nothing else, the mediocrity of our past heroes should raise our standards and expectations of the players.

Expectation #1: all the thing Winter cited in wulls post above

If we get a team like that ill be happy because it will indicate true growth and progress

I think on TFC today part 2, Landycakes has thrown down the gauntlet on home field advantage... we need to bring it when LA plays only ~3wks away... have to admit Seattle was loud... but we can be louder

who cares....i mean we can't be louder simply due to their stadium design, capacity etc...we are what we are in Toronto and its the best thing going in MLS.

Whoever makes the schedule is horrible. We are in San Jose the week before and have to fly all the way back to play LA when TFC could of just took a quick trip north to play them away first. Then they make a marquis game like LA vs RSL, two of the top teams in the league on a Fifa friendly date. Terrible.

Im a little tired of this 'first we must crawl' shit.

This pretense that their is no pressure or expectation is absurd, I fully believe that a coach like Steve Nicol or other proven MLS coach, could have taken our team at any point in its existence and taken it to the playoffs that season.

These are professional footballers on our squad, not idiots, at some point the responsibility for tactical incompetence and awkward play will shift from the players to the coach.
