im excited - but still cynically guarded - thinking about the prospect of supporting an offensively fluid-playing team
I dont think people arent excited, but when you look at history its tough not to have guarded optimism based on the track record of the owners sports franchises. I think I would be tough not to be optimistic at this juncture but equally tough to not have caution surrounding it.
Still, Ive been recycling TFC songs in my head since the actual announcement has come out and would happily be at BMO today watching a game, getting it done for 90 in the stands.
de klerk looks like professional hitman or something lol

bonus!!! ATM v espanyol coverage hehe
Sure, but this is making the things that worked against us work for us - like Yohan said it's weird to have a salary cap of 2.3 million but spend 17 million (well, probably more, that's just the MLSE investment) on a training facility but that's what we've been talking about here for years, there are a lot of things the ownership can do to get a team past the parity of the league - there's no salary cap on management or facilities and so on. I complained about MLSE not doing these things for years but now that they are I have to recognize it.
I feel very good about the moves today.
Time to get over a 14 month depression and look up to better days ahead!
Anti-football is dead. Long live total football!!!
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
so dero's apparently coming back form what they all say, would he play as one of the three strikers? or would it be 3 + DeRo?
I'd imagine a Guevara type would work best as an am behind 3 strikers.
I don't want to rain on the parade but I can't see TFC bringing in the right players to make a 4-3-3 work.
Having watched the entire press conference and all the sit down interviews with the new personnel, all I can say is...
Bring on the 2011 season!
Hold the horses on that one. What they gave was the political answer, that they expect him back.
Celtic could still offer a contract, he could still hold out for a new contract, etc, etc. Lots to play out but the good news is that today isn't about Dwayne.
Very excited about the investment in the management and training/development. That has been lacking for some time. Very curious to see the evolution of their vision of "Total Football" from opening day 2011 to what it will look like 2-3 years down the road.
We may find some hidden talents within our ranks under a new playing system which would be welcomed until the real horses come in via transfer, trade or future development.
This clearly has to be a 2 year build.
If we some how pull it out of our ass in year one I'll be happy, but not expecting much other than being entertained.
It's going to take a lot to implement a 4-3-3 and be successful. But, at the same time i think there's a better way to go about business than some of the garbage other MLS teams have been up lately.
^ While this is not my favourite type of football, this is the type of football that my club, AC MIlan has been playing for some time.
Others have said it, but generaly one CF, (Ibrahimovich/Borriello), two SS/AM ( Robinho/Ronaldinho/Pato), and one playmaker (Seedorf/Pirlo), playing ahead of two DMs (Gattuso/Ambrosini).
I think that in TFC terms it could look something like;
-------------------------Santos -------------------------
-----------Barret----------------------De Ro------------
-------------------------JDG------------------------------
-----------La broca-----------------Gargan/Sanchez-----
[something like that]
Considering who mistake prone most MLS defenses are, it could produce result quickly if played right. When we played under cummings againts Chivas, with Dichio I belive, we looked as good as we ever did, or close to it.
Quality CBs and DMs are key to have this succees, both in attack and defense, if you have quality in this position and can switch play quickly from attack to defense and vice versa this can be lethal.
