Default Canada wins CONCACAF U-20 women's title

    http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/stor...ada-women.html

Karla Schacher scored during added time of the first half to lead Canada to a 1-0 victory over the United States and the CONCACAF women's under-20 soccer championship on Saturday in Mexico.
It was the second CONCACAF championship for the Canadian women, coming on top of a 2004 title in Ottawa, also against their archrivals.
Both teams had already qualified for the U-20 World Cup, to be held this November in Chile, and they were joined by Mexico thanks to the host's shootout victory over Costa Rica earlier in the day.
Playing on a wet pitch, Canada and the U.S. traded a handful of chances in the first half before Schacher took over with the referee peering at her watch.
Schacher beat an American defender in the 18-yard box and fired a perfect shot past the American goalkeeper for what would be the winning marker.
The focus then turned to Canada's keeper, Erin McNulty, who withstood nine shots in the second half from the U.S. attackers.
In added time, McNulty watched a header by Keelin Winters sail over the bar and the defence fought off two more corner kick chances.
"In the second half, we just defended and killed off the game," said Canadian coach Bob Birarda. "We kept trying to get forward, but we were locked into a shape."
Canada's best finish at the World Cup was a silver, in 2002, in a tournament played at home.
