Default Should Toronto Go After Carlos Queiroz?

He was just fired today from Portugal.

    http://www.goal.com/en/news/1549/res...er-of-portugal

I know a lot of people may think it's unimaginable but he did play in the MLS for many years, so he does know this league to a certain extent and as a player he had no problem moving to North America. Perhaps he's the answer to our team for next season. I'm all for keeping Preki but Queiroz would be fantastic for this team. Toronto has a large Portuguese community as well so it's not like he's totally out of his element.

in my opinion he did very well at MANU. He has a good knowledge of the game on/off the pitch and can pick players. I would like to see someone like this to replace both MO and Preki, and a have a one man show.

CQ is a pretty bad manager but a great #2. He wouldn't come here anyways. IIRC, he was getting like 3 or 4 mil at portugal.

He does know this league, he's played in it, so it's not like he isn't completely out of it.

I do think Queiroz managed the Shite Bulls for like an year before becoming SAF's assistant... he knows all about how wacky this league is
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

Carlos managed the MetroStars (NYRB) and had a poor record.

He has never had a good record when he is the main man other than winning the B2B Junior WC titles with Portugal.

Good soccer mind (he authored the USA Q-report that created things like generation Adidas) but fails to excel when left alone.

    Back to OT me thinks.

I'm sure the assistant did exactly what Queiroz wanted him to do and didn't implement an entirely new system.

He was in the broadcast booth in the game and interestingly made a few jabs at the team and the formation.

The main annoucer at one point said that "Who scores 3 can score 4" meaning Cyprus (Portugal winning 4-3 at that point) and Queiroz responded "Who gives up 3, can give up 4"

Queiros never played in the MLS as a player, however, he did coach New York.

1 thing for sure, he'd be a "rockstar" here especially with the Portuguese community.

Hell, SAF would even come and visit his cousins and Carlos during the off-season. 2 birds with 1 stone sort of thing.

WTF are you guys talking about? You must be watching some league that doesn't have a hard on for parity. Sounds awesome.

I'd love to see him here. I am not Portuguese but I may be biased..

He "could" come here if he felt like he wanted a change. He's kinda like that. He's a typical Portuguezer but also kinda a weirdo. I know this b/c I have spoken to my family (thru marriage) who coached those WC winning teams with him.

My first guess will be back to EPL though.

While we are at it why not get Marcello Lippi here. He has won pretty much every title possible as a coach

He most likely wouldn't come but I do stress that he "could" if it tickled his fancy (which is slightly unpredictable).

He'd tear the MLS apart. Forget him as a coach, bring him as a player.

John Carver, part 2. Good technical coach, can't run the room.

Wasn't Walter Zenga on our shortlist in year one before we decided on Mo? Apparently he was interested in the job. Not sure about his coaching style but has decent pedigree.

Personally i think the "you can't run MLS unless you've been in MLS" theory will be dead pretty shortly. RBNY will put a partial steak in it, and some other coaches that come along will do their part as well.

You have a good manager who can identify talent and pair him with some technical staff, rinky-dink MLS regulations will not be a challenge to overcome. Don't shit yourself, every league has it's ins and outs. MLS may have more but the guys running the show for many teams right now are not nearly on the level many available international managers are.
