Kick up Spending is a good idea and I'm glad the NDP is lighting fires but the grass roots level has to ride the coat tails of the pros. That's where the attention is. Throw money into the Men's team(like advertising for exposure) and the kids will see the direction they need to take and we'll get not converts but kids sticking with the beautiful game.

I've clearly been distracted to miss the All star game is featuring United. Finally a sellout in Houston! But I don't care. I'm past friendlies to simply spotlight the league. This game isn't enough to counter the damage it does to the league with wear and tear on players. I'll be watching this All-star game to make sure DeRo isn't hurt than for United. Gawd, I can't wait until the year the league grows past this garbage.

    Canada needs a soccer identity

I don't think the league will ever out grow all-star games. All-star games are part of North American sports (like playoffs). Promotion/relegation has just as much a chance happening as removing the all-star game.

I found this story interesting. TD Bank was just recently named official bank of DC United.
TORONTO FC, 2017 MLS CHAMPIONS!!! (Still the greatest in league history!)

That's their US subsidiary, made up of a number of failed US banks bought at a deep discount.
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

TD that we know is the parent bank to TD Bank North which is down in the states a lot. When you go Boston way etc you'll see the faithful Green Machines and guess what, you can take out US $$$ at the TD rate and no fees

No Pro/rel dosen't happen here because North America is BIG and it isn't realistic, the infrastructure doesn't exist for 80-200+ professional football teams, in 4-8 leagues to have a 3 or 4 tiered pro/rel system that is cost effective. The Euro system developed out of a club system in very small area's with low travel costs. The Entire FA is in an Area the size of Southern Ontario. La Liga is in an area alittle bigger then California, Ligue 1 an area a little bigger then Texas. Travel costs are much much lower. Don't want to turn this into a debate about this, but the All Star game and Pro/rel are different issues...

All-star games allows people to get to see all their best players in one place, it's just a fun spectacle, and celebration of the game and good party.

I'd actually love to see a all-star team series between a Euro league and MLS. That could be an interesting home away series. And could get the idea to take off there. Though in the Euro league nearly all the best players in the top leagues are on one or two teams anyway.

razor: See oldtimer's and bones's post. Same bank. Oh and you'll notice that most Canadian banks are building brand in the acronyms rather than their full names specifically for the foreign market. Thus, BMO, TD, RBC, and CIBC are almost exclusively used and rarely their full names (if ever)

I hate the idea of the all-star game. When we take the best players we have in a league, and we put them up against regular teams from other leagues, and we get beaten, or its a close game, it just makes our football look all that much worse.

Just points out that if you took the best that the league had to offer, it wouldnt even make a good team in La Liga, or another solid league.

TD BankNorth no longer exists as a brand. When they bought Commerce Bank, the new entity was rebranded as "TD Bank - America's Most Convenient Bank"

    Take a look:

TD Wealth Management and TD Insurance are service marks of The Toronto-Dominion Bank. Used with permission.

Yep -- that single line is about it.

Toronto Dominion bank owns and controls TD Bank in the US. They like to say it's a US bank so that people in the US will feel more at ease (although they do have a headquarters in the US which reports to the big one in Toronto)

It's funny.. I always wanted TD to sponsor TFC instead of BMO just because I don't like having the idea of Montreal anywhere near our jerseys!
(although the main headquarters for BMO is now in Toronto with only a more symbolic headquarters remaining in Montreal)

Oh well.. maybe Scotiabank can sponsor Montreal Impact to confuse things even more.

I'd actually like to see TD Bank sponsor Montreal. It would just make for a truly Canadian moment, sort of like the old Roughriders vs Rough Riders CFL games.

TD is the bank. TD's American division is the fastest growing retail bank in the United States right now, primarily because it has adopted a service based approach similar to their Canadian ops (and you can laugh about this but service in American banks is way worse than in Canada).
