So SOUNDERS sign Swiss striker Blaise N'Kufo
    NYRB sign Theiry Henry

    and we sign Mista. . . .

I think the player that Mista is, fits perfectly with our current needs.. . GRINDER
well positioned, can finish chances and will adapt quickly to the physical play (and lack of passes) quickly.

    Mista is a DP:

Miguel Angel Ferrer Martinez, known as Mista, has been confirmed as Toronto FC’s second Designated Player, joining Julian de Guzman.
The signing was confirmed earlier this week but some extra information has come to hand with Mista, despite being installed as a DP, only taking up half the total sum a normal DP would incur.

    Confirmed by whom? where? when?

that "article" could be totally fabricated on hearsay or using the CBC as it's source.

it confirms nothing.. I'm not saying it isn't true, but I'd like an official source.

If Mista is indeed a DP, he'd better well fuckin' score a shitload of goals for our side.

Yummy, yummy red haired SSG today.

This is my point exactly to the tee.

I know i am beating the dead horse here, but if this guy is a DP then it is the most understated Dp signing in the history of MLS. In every single occasion the league has never once missed the chance to play up a DP signing as a way to get additional publicity. TFC has not confirmed a damn thing.

I think though this is the point of having more than 1 DP. It's not about how many poster boys you can now bring it - it's to give clubs more options in terms of players they need to make their team/league better. So TFC might be setting the trend so to speak that outside of the first DP, the next one is simply a player who is skilled but there to balance out/contribute.

So although you aren't getting big news releases about the fact he's a DP IMO this is the point - a signing is a signing regardless of their salary.

And if he wasn't a DP he doesn't have to score goals?

What if he only gets assists, but we still win the games. Is he worth it then?

All I mean to say is, we shouldn't look at a player's value only based on their goal tally -- and especially not jump on guys just because of their DP label. For me, if Mista can be the type of holding-forward we haven't had since DD, and we can score a lot of goals because of his play, then he's worth it, regardless of how many he scores himself.

Not if he for example is making more than what a DP contract would count for under the salary cap. Let's say hypothetically for a moment that TFC is paying Mista 250k for the rest of the season. Based on his pedigree that is not a number outside the realm of possibility. It is not a DP deal and the whole shebang of the 250k counts against the cap and/or allocation dollars.

If he was on a DP deal only then if he was still getting 250k in hand for example in salary then there would be using my example an additional $83,000 in cap/allocation room that could be used on another player or two.

The only logical way that a non DP deal works here is if he is being paid less than 167k for the rest of the season. If that is what has happened then I congratulate Mo for an apparently astute piece of business. But again that to me is the only logical way that scenario works to the benefit of TFC.

I know for a fact that Mista is a DP. My source (a team official) also said that he is only being given DP status to make his signing more compatible with the cap, not because they expect tons of goals. They also said that he would replace OBW in the starting XI, because OBW hasnt been scoring enough.

    ...

    Yes, I was confused too.

He's our second DP. From a reliable source.
"Failure simply isn't an option at this stage. TFC pushed its chips to the middle of the table when it splurged on Bradley and Defoe and reinforced its bet by making savvy acquisitions elsewhere. This collection of players is capable of delivering on the promises made during the close season. There are no more excuses available for TFC. Only success will continue the process of atoning for the past and establishing a higher standard for the future." FOX Sports

toronto fc tv latest edition is up..

interview with MISTA.. was doubtful about this guy but he just scored points with me in his interview..

    http://torontofc.neulion.com/tfc/con...atid=2&id=2064

seems like a very honest guy. Wanted to have a good fit with the club and the city and even though he won't promise any goals he expects to fullfill the striking needs TFC is looking for.. JDG being here was a determining factor for him deciding to come to T.O.

seems like a very classy guy
