Default Vancouver to show off new MLS name and logo

NEWSFLASH: The Vancouver Whitecaps are unveiling their new MLS name, logo and colours on the morning of June 8.

To celebrate this historic day, the Southsiders will be hosting a very special event later in the evening at one of our partner venues in downtown Vancouver. There will be guest speakers, video presentations, a ton of prizes and much, much more!

It will also be the FIRST EVER opportunity to purchase Vancouver MLS scarves, t-shirts and other merchandise featuring the club's new logo!

Two pairs of tickets will also be up for grabs to take part in a special Whitecaps bus trip to Seattle to watch the Sounders play DC United at Qwest Field on June 10.

Stay tuned later today for additional info... but as for right now.... SAVE THE DATE!

I was hoping they weren't just going to slap a MLS patch the current kit because it is pretty weak so this is good news...

Why would a Whitecaps fan want to take a bus ride to see Seattle play DC?

New name? Any guesses? Hope they haven't gone for another lame natural-phenomenon based name like Vancouver Thunder or Vancouver Lightning or Vancouver Rainstorm or Vancouver Sewer Overflow.

They'll stick with Whitecaps, just like the Sounders got their old name.

besides, the Whitecaps have a huge history from back in the NASL and earlier, so changing it now would probably be the dumbest possible move they could make.

Oh. wow. A * Vancouver * scarf. Just the perfect accessory for hanging next to that Montreal Limp Act scarf or that puky yellow Krew scarf.

I actually have no issue with the Whitecaps name.
    I hope they keep it.

It kinda has that "old-timey" ring to it like "Red Sox".
Except they're not talking about the "caps" on their heads... hahaha.

Why give up a name that goes back to 1974?

    or.... Inter Whitecaps?

it's probably just an update of the crest and some new kits. I expect it to be minor.

I'm surprise none of you have wagered how long it will take to have the new Vancouver crest defaced. The Philly crest was done in what, 24 hours?

I actually think that is a kick ass name, just because people have been calling the town 'van city' for years.

I'd say what I think of this group, but then I'd probably get an infraction from one of my fellow mods.

They should call it "No Fun City FC" after the city's official nickname.

    It's actually already Whitecaps FC.

Maybe "Whitecaps" refers to the their knee caps that are white with fear and clacking together in the face of mighty TFC.

I can sorta see them putting up Vancouver City FC as the official name and encouraging the use of Van City as the shortened nickname.

The club has gone on record several times saying they won't be changing the name, so I guess that's that, though. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised there are making any changes at all. The current Whitecaps logo is fairly modern, and what else can you do with a blue and white wave design?
