interesting article on just how tough MLS might be for European players
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

Canada Vs. Venezuela tonight at 7 on RSN!
WHOO!!!!
not a bad way to lead into the TFC match!
SSG is good looking in what I would consider a rather generic way.
These are the exact same photos used a couple of months ago with this chick. Quite an obvious repeat. Talk about phoning it in on the part of the Sun staff.
I don't know what is more sad, the fact that they are repeating a SSG from a few months ago or that I recognized her.
Dunno if anyone noticed FC Edmonton releasing their roster few days ago

On another note, I believe this will be the very first match this season wherein Preki will have a complete match fit roster at his disposal other than Gomez. It will be interesting to see his selection for the starting lineup without a congested schedule to worry about...
She smiles in the video.
I also recognized her. At first I wondered if she came back for another photo shoot (which I would recommend if anyone from the sun is reading this) but then I saw it was the one from a month ago.
+1.
Major League Soccer cannot compete financially with most of its European counterparts. Nor does it have any desire to keep up with the Jones's. Those with the talent will continue to be exported to the highest bidder but MLS can hold its head up high in the knowledge it has made a contribution to the drama that lies ahead.

"Failure simply isn't an option at this stage. TFC pushed its chips to the middle of the table when it splurged on Bradley and Defoe and reinforced its bet by making savvy acquisitions elsewhere. This collection of players is capable of delivering on the promises made during the close season. There are no more excuses available for TFC. Only success will continue the process of atoning for the past and establishing a higher standard for the future." FOX Sports
MLS is in a weird position, isn't it? It's like a Premiership club thats developing through its Academy (i.e. NCAA). Bringing in these stars like Beckham and Henry are nice, but what would be better is to market these up and coming stars that are American born / bred. Frei, Omar Gonzales, Teal Burnaby should be marketed better / more frequently.
Shalrie Joseph admits pot use
They even included a picture of him looking like a rastafarian“Bottom line is I made a bad decision to smoke marijuana,” Joseph said. “I got caught and they sent me to drug rehab treatment."
Techno will be soooo disappointed.
This impressed me...
All MLS players are subjected to a minimum of two random drug tests with no prior notice per calendar year under the collectively bargained Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health (SABH) program.
The independent agency in charge of the program tests year-round for substances included on the league’s prohibited list, including street drugs such as cocaine, marijuana and heroin, performance-enhancing drugs and other substances included on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list.

I agree!
The NHL is successful because even in it's leanest years, they could count on the Canadian market. Why? Canadians love their hockey and their Canadian boys. No matter how good Jagr was, Canadians wanted to see Lemieux. No matter how good Lidstrom was, we loved Stevie Y and Shanahan. Gretzky is still a folk hero here even though he is more American now than Canadian.
Where are the American stars? They try to market Donovan but he has such a dull personality that if it weren't for his talent, he'd be very difficult to market. McBride? He is respected for sure, but he's never been marketed enough, especially with all the contributions he's made to the national team. US Soccer does a far better job marketing the game in the US than the CSA does in Canada, but they still have a ways to go.
Stop concentrating on Beckham and start promoting your talented young kids. And as much as rah-rah nationalism irritates me, it works. Throw a US flag behind their pictures and tell everyone to "get behind your boys".
And Canada should do the same with our boys.
Drug rehab for pot? LOL wow....
Rehab is for quitters

Makes me laugh, because actually, MLS salary budgets are growing faster than their Euro counterparts...big 2/4 teams excepted.
From what i remember calculating, the MLS salary cap is going up 12-14% a year.
Yes, it's small in total numbers but if the growth rates continue at this pace, we'll be up to a decent 2nd division status in no time.
