It's a funny ad in that it's naive and poorly thought out.
So the Vancouver Whitecaps are essentially saying "we openly encourage our fans to abuse players of visiting teams simply for wearing a different jersey. Furthermore, it is your responsibility as a parent to teach your children that blind hatred is the appropriate reaction to something alien to them..."
I'm sure their defense is something along the lines of "but it's Toronto, everyone hates Toronto..." and that's their prerogative. I don't personally care but they ought to be careful, hate tends to be a two-way street. Simply put, they're out of their depth.
A myopic and juvenile attempt to stir up rivalry from a second-rate, parochial city whose team simply doesn't matter to us.
