It's a glorious day when you open up the paper and read this:

Nevertheless the fact Frei had very little to do tonight is itself an indication of the sturdiness of the back four and the cohesiveness of the defending of the team as a whole.
Doesn't it just bring a tear to your eyes?

given we were up a man for more than half a game I don't know if we deserved to win. BUT, we did play well enough to at least deserve a tie, and there were some nice moments which definitely make the future look a bit more promising

I said it was a blatant foul by Califf on DeGuzman and a shit job by the Goalkeeper to bobble for the 1st goal.

2nd goal, definitely should not have been a penalty. It just goes to show the level of referees in the MLS. Today, it went in our favour, but we could easily have been on the other side of this match and down 1 goal because of a referee got it wrong.

Alot of people said it would have been 0-0 draw, but i think we would have been lucky to draw versus the Union.

First win of the season, and a super hot SSG. That's a double if ever there was one.

Why not? According to the replay, Seitz never touched the ball, and White got a touch a split second before Seitz took him down.

It looks like White tried to knock it past the outcoming Seitz. If Seitz doesn't take White down, White can probably catch up to the ball and, at a sharp angle, loft it into the net for a goal.

    I think it's a legit penalty.

I watched it again and you are absolutely right, that's a penalty. Of course, it would be too much for the refs to be correct and have it benefit us for some posters on these boards.

Be happy we got a call OUR way for once! The horrible calls late in games against us have been brutal over the years.

I hung my head when i saw who was reffing the game at the start. Not just because he's an idiot, but he also ruins games. But we won, and hopefully we'll improve with every game...or we're still in trouble.

Agreed. I've seen the video footage of that foul, and Seitz never got the ball. Tackles of that nature are always going to be extremely risky, and the goalkeeper erred to our advantage.

Just re-watched the game on the PVR and that's a penalty here and everywhere else in the world... From MLS, to EPL, to FIFA WC matches...

White beat the keeper to the ball, touched it past him, and then is fouled inside the box - pk anywhere in the world, even the world cup...

Its a tactic every striker in the world uses, win that race to the ball - and if the keeper takes you down, you win the PK for your squad...

No way it's that definitive. By rule it's a PK, but really, it was a 50/50 call, late in a tied game.

If that had been Moreno on Frei, these boards would be inflamed beyond anything we have ever seen ...
