UNCLE HARPIE WANTS YOU to read the latest article posted on http://www.ultras114.com
Enjoy.
Uncle Harpie has lost my fucking vote in the next election.
And I'm from the fucking West.
This goes hand in hand (not the Church street way hahah) with this thread. http://www.redpatchboys.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=1636
Maybe we should make friends with St. Pauli and Livourno fans. :dunno:
Good article. Pretty much what I expected on the Che banner's explanation.
Che was "leftist".. Your anti-gay statements make you right wing... you probably don't know what you are anyways...but again who cares if ultras are left or right
you forgot to mention that while che fought against oppressive government, he did a pretty nice job of setting one up in Cuba.
just saying.
ha! nice article. Made me laugh, but still made a strong point. the undercovers don't really have guns on them in the stands do they??
LOL! More than a little ironic. Lots of people forget that or overlook it.
It reminds me of a quote I read in Time magazine, from a Chinese official commenting on the mourning parents of children lost in poorly built schools and who were protesting against the government for it. He said "They are disrupting society, the government will fix their problems." Sure they will.
The US never "snubbed" Cuba, they have always been against the regime because the US supported the previous the corrupt pro-US regime of Batista that was overthrown by Castro. Their relationship was cold even before it started.
Che is often referred to as a socialist, but for practical terms, he was a communist. "Socialist" is simply the general term used at the time that communists used to describe themselves. Remember the "USSR" stands for the United Soviet Socialist Republic. And Che is the one who established the relationship between Cuba and the Soviet Union. To state Che was anything other than a communist is to be a little naive.
Every time I see a Che banner in football I shake my head.... To me it reeks of wannabe... Why not have a Castro banner instead of Che?

how about a John Diefenbaker banner?

I say if you want a banner that tells people that you don't take shit, and you do things your own way, then it should be of Han Solo!
Or... if you want to continue with the Anti-Gay thing then you could also have a banner of Andrew Dice Clay.
the fact is the che has transended any socialist trappings..he is now a marketing tool. i think he would have had a wee problem with that.
all undercover police carry handguns. that shouldn't be up for debate. having a need for undercover cops in the stands is totally different however.
And most of us Latinos come from countries that have bounced back between socialist and fascist so many times it has made our heads spin and for us, Latin political figures only bring bitterness to mind. We see the use of the Che figure around us in the world as the ultimate in selling out to the trendy marketing culture.
can't this board let one week go by without having a Che discussion?
What I'm specifically speaking about is Castro wanted to meet w/ the US prez (might've been Kennedy) to discuss trade, but when they didn't even give him the time of day because of Castro's overthrow of the prior pro-US govt. he went to the USSR for trade and well you can all see the rest as it is now.
Socialists aren't commies, neccessarily. Look at Venezuela and Bolivia for example.
Anyways, enough Spanish American politics. To sum it up: it's messed up!
Whether Che was good or bad is a never ending discussion that will just make the mods close this thread.
I agree on Che's face being used to perpetuate profits in a system he fought hard against. But I really don't give a shit. Why should I take off my Che shirt because some blonde bimbo has his face on her Prada purse? I know what my sentiments are towards him and the Cuban revolution, so I sleep well at night knowing I'm not a hypocrite.
I love it when people see me with a Che shirt and try to act like smartasses by thinking I don't know who he is. Stepping up to a Poli Sci major who loves history and politics more than anything else with that attitude is a verbal death sentence.
Irregardless, I'm glad you enjoyed the article.
i would like to see a trailor park boys banner myself!!! Fo Sho Bro!!!
Toronto FC baby...best team everrrrrrrrrr -Jozy
I take no issue with the Che banners.
I think theyre about as political as the hipsters wearing Che t-shirts walking around campus. i.e. not very.
Maybe this should be moved to the off topic section since I haven't seen TFC mentioned in here since the article..
