Default NEW MLS Match center (WOW!)

    from Paul Beirne's twitter.. http://twitter.com/paulbeirne

"New MLS video player will be hi def, 16:9, ability to watch 3 games at once. Suddenly $40 for full access to all games seems ok."

I've been a sub for the last 3-4 years now and it keeps getting better while remaining a great value. Can't wait to see this year's.

    ^^Ditto.

MLSE needs to be more serious about the league they own a team in. Regardless of ratings someone has to take this league and bring it to people as a polished and serious product or nothing will change on the ratings front.

I'm transitioning more and more to watching stuff on my computer, so this is great. I always thought it was a good value.

I've paid my $20 to subscribe for years. $40 seems worth it provided they are really going to have all of the games.

the only negative was not allowing us to see the big ESPN games, even though the ESPN games were not anywhere on Canadian TV. they should do IP checks and let Canadians watch if it's not on in Canada.

I imagine. It was 20 bucks for the whole year last couple of years.

This is a really good value. I'm all over this for sure.

I've also subscribed to the Match Center in the last two years. Personally I'm not too psyched about the new $40 fee (and yes, it was $20 for the whole year previously). Wasn't it already hi def last year....? Can't remember, that would be an improvement.

I don't think I ever want to watch more than one game at a time, at least not if one of them is a TFC game. And unfortunately it doesn't look like there will be any change in the policy regarding which games are shown/not shown. The 2010 TFC schedule lists the MLS games that are shown on MLSnet.com which I'm pretty sure is the same thing as Match Center. Five TFC games aren't this year, because they're nationally televised in the US on ESPN2/Deportes, Fox, or Telefutura. I think that's about the same number as last year (and is probably just related to the broadcast schedule & which TFC games happened to get picked up).

Maybe they will still change that rule, but I doubt it. What I would think is a huge improvement, and I'd gladly pay the $40: if they gave you a choice of home or away announcers to listen to for the broadcast. Last years, they picked the US announcers for most of the games. Some of them are fine, some of them are absolutely awful. If they would give us the choice of the audio from whatever Cdn station is also broadcasting that day, it would be awesome.

the stream wasn't hi-def last year that's for sure - and sure it would be great if it were on GolTV but this is a pretty good deal. I'll probably subscribe again.

Yeah, I subscribed the last couple of years also.

$40 as opposed to $20 ... maybe it will be worth it. Have to see.

Saying it's HD and 16:9 is all well and good, but not enough teams have their games shot/broadcast in HD to begin with. And that includes our team.

Fox Soccer Channel went HD recently, but games that are on their air are blacked out on Match Center.

Perhaps that will change this year, but I doubt it...the NHL is lucky to get HD broadcasts in the U.S.

National broadcast was completely blacked out before but last year they started showing all the replays. FWIW, we'll get to see some HD in replays at least if they do that again.

Yes, that was the big improvement last year. And obviously it makes sense -- once the game has been broadcast live, why shouldn't we be able to watch an archive?

HD sounds good. The only problem for me is that obviously I'm overseas and so often I can't watch it live because my stream is just too slow, and then sometimes it even takes hours to download the archived stream (especially if I want it in high quality).

So hopefully, along with this change and price increase, they also increase their server capacity.

Hi Def and the ability to watch three games at once may finally make this worth it. Looking forward to it now.

For the record, you could always watch three games at once. You just needed three different browsers installed on your computer.

I once had Firefox, IE, Chrome, Safari and Opera open...each with an MLS Live stream going at the same time as the others.

If it's $40 it seems like a steal to me. I've been paying $180 or something for NHL GameCenter.

it was useful to have multiple games in the final stretch of last season as he had to constantly work the numbers for the playoffs.

I pulled the price of $40 out of thin air. for some reason I thought it was $39.99 last year. I dont know what the price is for 2010.

I think they will black out local games (to drive people to local TV). no idea how they will handle ESPN in Canada. Didn't think to ask but will now.

I dunno... I've seen some pretty impressive live HD streaming and that was a few years ago. Depends on how good the compression is I guess...

Gol TV should show more MLS games because that's the league the team they own plays in. I think that a move like that shows a company taking the league more seriously. You don't?

I realize a Real Madrid or Bayern game is going to get more viewers but the core of GOL TV seems to be shifting towards TFC themed shows and the next step is more MLS games no?

Don't doubt that, but when you're doing a multistream HD............I don't believe (I could be wrong) that only a few games will be in HD (probably like the big match)

If KC and NYRB are a Sunday Afternoon game, it'll be in SD..........where as Chicago/Columbus (Battle for first place as an example) would be in HD.

Just take the priority games or high-viewership games in HD.

I get the Direct Kick pacage from Directv. The advantages of using this instead of MLS Livestream is that I can use my DVR (PVR I think for ya'll). James Oliphant said it best that most of the matches are/were not shot in HD but, some of the larger markets (NY and LA) were. I am now trying to justify spending $30 more for the DK package from what has been posted in here.
