Default Please put Cathal Kelly out of his misery

The Toronto Star has sent their 'thenthitive bhoy' , Cathal Kelly, over to cover the Euros.

Have you ever read such loads of shite in your life? All he does is seek out the negative and amplify it.

Everybody is rowdy and disorderly and displeases him. The stadiums aren't worthy of his approval. Swiss people aren't nice to him. Impeccable taste, I'd say.

Everyone is reporting about how this is one of the best soccer tournaments they've seen in recent years, full of bright, positive play. All he can talk about is the ugly stuff - violence, rioting, drunkenness. And he seems to have a world exclusive on those subjects because there's precious little of it going on or being reported about in other media.

His editor, Mike Simpson, is known in media circles for disliking soccer. The Star did everything they could to oppose the building of BMO Field. They practically ignored TFC's first-year training camp and only sent Morgan Campbell down to Carolina after readers complained about the lack of coverage.

Simpson is this sort of hypocrite. He's from Stratford, Ont., home to an Inter-County Baseball Leage franchise. He writes a nice, gushing piece about the league in the Leafs season program. Then he virtually ignores the team all year long, even when they won the league title last year.

Now he's got his baseball beat writer, Kelly, covering the second-biggest soccer event in the world and letting him write unbalanced, slanted articles about the event and the game in general. It's a wonder Zurich is still standing by his account.

Fhuck ohff, you fhour-eyed ghobshite!! Next time he shows up for a TFC game, please bring the screening curtains into the press box at BMO Field and have this waste of DNA and newsprint humanely disposed of.

Negativity is Kelly's schtick. He doesn't just apply it to soccer, he applies it to all sports.

Not sure about his opinions on soccer but agree on his comments on the Swiss and the organization in the Swiss side...these guys are the furthest from soccer fans in Europe... The cities are dead..you can't tell they are hosting a Football championship..the fan zones are terrible..everything is
overpriced for the fans coming from outside Switzerland...the only people creating atmosphere are the visitors like us...nothing from the host country..

^ i was in swiss in late 05' deniz and a pint was around 13-15CHF (at the time $10-$13 CAD) and i bet they've jacked the prices up further.

also heard the atmosphere is that the locals want everyone out now, all foreigners to go home, true?

The Star is filled with pissed off little windbags with an axe to grind about any and all things. That paper is a sad waste of good Canadian trees

The star has a negative guy for each sport, it's just their approach. Not saying its right, but soccer is no different than the rest of the sports to them. They whine about them all.

^Gotta agree with you there. Dave Perkins, Dave Feschuck etc. It's just what they do. Which was why I cancelled my subscription.

Just stick with the Globe. The Globe and Mail has become my favourite paper, and not just because of the footy coverage, which is excellent.
