Merry Christmas... or whatever it is that you celebrate at this time of year!
Absolutely. D, this is the most anticipated part of my day these days. And although I may not say it often enough, your work here is very much appreciated!

What about Ian Joy? Looks like his club is in a lot of trouble financially and he is looking to come back to MLS or go back to Bundesliga 2 (he was with St. Pauli there for a few years). Decent Left back.

Interesting
Anybody know how the league rules work on these?
How do the "rights" to these groups of young players get allocated? (obviously it's the same rules that put the Gambians here)

MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
Thanks D!
Your work is priceless...

For someone who just turned 18 this kid has a solid head on his shoulders. Cool guy to listen to and I think this guy could be the heart of our national program in the future.
I know in some cases MLS does have somebody centrally co-ordinating talent scouting. There's some sort of central database where clubs can look through players already scouted by the league or offered by agents.
In this case (similar to the columbians signed last week i'm assuming) the individual clubs make the final call. I assume they did their own scouting work as well. It's just the league steps in for salary negotiation. FCD has done similar stuff to this in the past (I think they have an agreement with the Traffic group out of Brazil).
Is that kind of what you were getting at or totally in the wrong direction?
I don't think anybody gets signed than allocated.
i would think La would have to put discovery claims on these three, right?
the article says they trialed with LA in Oct.
^ you don't need to file a claim to trial or sign a player. But if someone puts a "discovery" claim on while they are in camp, you've basically lost the ability to sign him. Major reason why you get so little information on the trialists who come through.
But at the same time, i don't think any MLS club has ever scooped another to put a discovery on a guy they had in camp. Mcbride was a former USMNT player so he goes to the allocation process, We had Huckerby's rights via discovery, but we intended to sign him originally.
Needless to say the rules related to this process are incredibly stupid, it's meant to stop trialists from getting one MLS club to put the price up on another. Unfortunately what often happens is a guy asks his fair market value, the club low balls him, and he ends up playing in another league.

Damn, noone thank Denime for always posting the SSG, bunch of wankers!
Big Thanx D
My point is, somehow, these guys sign in groups. Which means it isn't the McBride allocation process.
