Default Toronto FC vs Houston Dynamo - Match Thread

    VS

    MLS
    Toronto FC vs Houston Dynamo
    ROBERTSON STADIUM, Houston, Texas
    June 8, 2008 | 8:30 p.m

MATCH PREVIEW: Both coming off solid home victories in their last matches, the Houston Dynamo play host to Toronto FC on Sunday evening at Robertson Stadium. The Dynamo defeated the New York Red Bulls last Saturday, while TFC knocked off the LA Galaxy. The Dynamo were supposed to have played D.C. United at midweek, only for that game to be postponed. TFC is a rare team that had success against Houston last year, defeating the Dynamo in Toronto and gaining a scoreless draw in their meeting in the Bayou City.

Houston is one of three teams undefeated at home.
hopefully tonight TFC can make it only 2 teams undefeated at home..

I think Robert will get one from the run of play today. Is Dichio available today or are we starting with Cunningham up front again?

They are playing Patrick Ianni (in for the suspended Eddie Robinson) in central defense. Robinson is a perennial all-star. This is a big break for us.

Most teams don't have the depth we do at that position. Ianni survived against the Red S**** last week, and the Houston BS boards go on about him, but I think Dichio (if he's near 100%) can own him.

I'm optimistic about our chances against the Dynamo tonight despite our sub par record on the road thus far. IMO, the first 2 losses of the season at Columbus and DCU were not an indicator because of all the roster changes since then. In reality, this version of TFC is 1-1 on the road in recent memory and should be 2-0 if it wasn't for the late collapse that blew the game against DC. I predict a hard fought 2-1 victory for TFC...

A victory tonite would be really sick. this houston is clearly not the same houston that won the league last year...so i think we really have a chance for tonite.

also winning it tonite will give us 20 points...which brings us so close to our total points from last year...one third into this season...that is hilarious!

Well, we still have to fix the fact that we SUCK on the road. We're great at home, but can't win away (except for the two times we won, total). I'm hopeful, and I think we've got a better chance of taking points on the road now than we've ever had, but it's going to be very difficult tonight. Fingers crossed.

Actually, I think we were hugely lucky to be ahead at DCU, as well as lucky to win at LA, and at Montreal. Flip side, we probably deserved a result at Columbus.

Based on run of play, instead of 2-3-0, we could easily be 0-4-1 or 0-5-0 on the road (in all competitions).

We need to recognize our good fortune, and use it as a springboard to more convincing results.
