    Morning !

    Carver playing a juggling game
    By BILL LANKHOF, TORONTO SUN

Being the coach of Major League Soccer's Toronto FC is a little like working as one of those street buskers juggling torches, chainsaws and other instruments of mayhem.
    Eventually, you're getting nicked.
Yesterday, as the team prepared for tomorrow's game in Houston, John Carver was doing a slow burn.
The team practised without Amado Guevara and Tyrone Marshall who are absent with their national teams. Maurice Edu, meantime, is leaving to join the U.S. squad.
"We might still try to get (Guevara) there for Sunday. It's not easy getting in touch with people when they're in Honduras, if that's where he is. We're trying to see if we can get him available," said Carver, whose roster gets spread so far across the globe, so often, that when he calls a team meeting, he needs to do it through Interpol.

Jim Brennan and Greg Sutton have rejoined the team after callups to the Canadian national team for games against Brazil and Panama. But they depart again immediately after tomorrow's game because national side coach Dale Mitchell has summoned them for the June 15-20 World Cup qualifiers against St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

TFC rookie gets earful from Coach Carver
    By Ryan Johnston -- SPORTSNET.CA

TORONTO -- First-year goalkeeper Brian Edwards learned his first lesson as a professional on Friday at Toronto FC training: Never assume anything.

Edwards, who posted a clean sheet against the Los Angeles Galaxy while the incumbent Greg Sutton was away on international duty, drew the ire of head coach John Carver for what can only be described as 'mailing it in' at training.

"I think (Edwards) automatically thought that because Sutts (Greg Sutton) was back, he was going to take his place," Carver said, clearly frustrated by the developments. "By the way he has trained here this morning, he's almost, in my opinion, accepted that substitute place."

Sutton was back at training on Friday after playing in Canada's 2-2 draw with Panama on Wednesday evening in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The lanky No. 1 participated in drills with Edwards and No. 3 understudy David Monsalves. While Carver admitted Sutton has been TFC's best player through the first 10 games, he also stands by the belief that a winning 11 should not be disrupted, an approach that was clearly in Edwards' favour as the team prepare to face Houston on Sunday.

MLS to crack down on fan projectiles
    THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK -- Major League Soccer wants to make it clear: fans throwing objects onto the field will be tossed.

MLS commissioner Don Garber issued a statement Friday responding specifically to a game between the New England Revolution and Columbus Crew in Ohio on May 24. During that game, spectators threw items onto the field, sometimes hitting players. Several fans were ejected by stadium security.

Garber said the league will review security measures at each stadium, and will require teams to communicate the league's policy to fans. Those who break the rules will be ejected and banned from the stadium.

TFC head back on the road

Reds visit two-time defending MLS champion Dynamo

Toronto FC aim to record their second away win of the season when they take on Houston Dynamo on Sunday night (kick off 8:30 p.m. live on The Score.) Laurent Robert is available for selection after missing last week's win against LA Galaxy through suspension. Danny Dichio has now returned to training after injury. "Danny has progressed well," said coach John Carver. "He has joined in training today and is o.k." Jim Brennan and Greg Sutton were back at BMO Field on Friday after returning from international duty with Canada. Carver must decide whether to bring Sutton straight back into the starting side in place of Brian Edwards. "I have a big decision to make in goal, because Greg has been our best player this season. But he went away on international duty and Brian came in against LA and didn't do anything wrong."
Marco Velez and Tyrone Marshall are due to join up with the team in Houston after international games this week, but Mo Edu won't be available for the game. He has been called up to the U.S. squad to play Argentina at Giants Stadium on Sunday.

I wonder why after Carver has harsh words with Edwards, he immediately goes over and talks to the press about it?

Why wouldn't he keep that internal to the team?

might be some tactic he wants to play. cmight be something else going on with another player and carver might be doing this to show that he airs the issues.

Carver just wants everyone to feel like they have to fight for a spot.

I was thinking the same thing. Hell, I mail it in a work all the time. I'd hate for the papers to get hold of that information

    I thought this was odd:

"We might still try to get (Guevara) there for Sunday. It's not easy getting in touch with people when they're in Honduras, if that's where he is.

There were over one million cellphones in Honduras in 2004 (which means there are a lot more now) so the first part of this statement is nonsense. As for the second part, how on earth can Carver not know where he is?

    Is Guevara ducking Carver?

I'd say so. For Guevara, country comes first.
