Default Report: Villareal Could Buy Altidore and Loan Him to Huelva

SBI mentioned this rumour/report- it's clear Altidore will go soon. Villareal via Huelva sounds like a good way for him to develop. I think lower Spanish league is the best route for Jozy's progress- your thoughts on what could be one of MLS' best and brightest home grown talents?

Is the scenario likely? It is possible, but far from done. What does appear certain at this point is that Altidore will be sold this summer and Villarreal has the interest and the cash to make it happen. Red Bulls sources stated last week that parent company officials from Red Bull were still weighing whether to sell Altidore and for how much, but that his desire to leave and the club's desire to have a quick resolution to his status would make a deal likely to be completed before the July 1 opening of the European transfer window.

In other words, Altidore's last day as a Red Bulls player is coming soon.

NY is in some serious trouble. 2 DP slots used up already 1 is shite (Reyna) and the other has been injured on and off (Angel). Altidore was giving much more bang for their money that they'll get anywhere else. The biggest reason they are in trouble is because they are SHITE!

The real question is - By losing Altidore do the Red Bulls increase or decrease their level of shite-ness? Hmmm...

He may know what he's getting himself into and I hate to reinforce any stereotypes but he may be oblivious of anything really going on outside the US. Not saying he is, but you never know.

Congrats to Jozy... but Jozy is still a girl's name.

This is good news for MLS. European clubs buying MLS players may hurt our quality in the short-run, but a good portion of the money has to go back into player development = good thing.

Well you could see this coming from a mile away. Altidore is a fantastic young player, his play at the U20's was superb, and he showed why he can one day be a pretty dominating striker. He is blessed with pace and a physical edge, which should bode well for his move to Europe. Many North American players lack the right mix to have success in Europe. Villareal have got themselves a fantastic young player.

This just shows that clubs are starting to take the MLS, and North America in general, very seriously. Hopefully one day we'll be able to retain our regions top players for a tad longer.

Anything that makes our mortal enemy weaker is priceless.

It's not like NY has a great track record of spending millions on quality players, coaches, staff, scouts, etc...

You are. It is 66% to the team the rest to MLS.

Club can spend up to 400k on players salaries or whatever they want on a designated player. The rest has to go to other club operations, ie: scouts, academy, training staff, etc.

IF you're Red Bull and smart (yeh right) you'd put that money into a 2-3million a year DP and the rest into their youth academy and overseas scouting network (if they have one).
