Default Grass being installed at BMO

Here is a pic of the grass being installed at BMO in advance of Friday nights game against Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid. It will be interesting to see BMO with a canvas that cows would enjoy to eat look, these temporary natural turfs have not always held up well when taking a pounding like they do during a game of footy. Go Reds

Remember The Man, The Legend, The Goal 5-12-07 and All That #9 Left On The Pitch, Thanks For The Memories !!!

the good thing is that the temps will be just right & the grass should hold up.

yeah way to waste money on a meaningless game.. Id rather see it go to the training facility

but I guess the temptation to make a quick buck is too strong..
It seems the long term growth of the game/team isnt a priority for MLSE.. but the quick buck is..

Real Madrid is paying for the grass. The bitterness is getting old quickly.

What is the point of this post?
This game is the best thing that has happened in defense of our argument for a full time natural grass pitch at the stadium.

Kinda sucks how it works out but the lacrosee boys get to play a real game on it, but not TFC.

No joke, it's been talked about. I think Beirne did an interview somewhere or other saying that it would be a cool souvenir.

Shame it won't hold long enough for us to play on it against DC. That would've been great.

Great... I'm sure the turf will look extra shitty once they remove the grass. But its worth padding MLSE pockets right?

+1.....although I am against the mid-season friendly, I agree withyouon this. The players will talk about howmuch better it was to play on grass and the media will lap it up.....the pressure will be on MLSE after this.

what pressure though. There's nothing tangible about that. I hope you are right but it seems to me your giving the benefit of the doubt to a corporation*...and that wont get you anywhere

    Reputation regarding what, though?

If you're talking about the sporting side, fine. But when it comes to their facilities, MLSE has shown that they will consistently spend money.

Now before anyone jumps in tells me that MLSE got cheap with BMO Field and should have built a better stadium, well there are a ton of factors that prevented that from happening (miore than simply "ML$E is cheap lolz0rs"), and this isn't what I'm arguing.

At the ACC, the ice was once considered the worst (or one of the worst) in the entire NHL. This was due to the arena's proxmity to the lake and the humidity levels that that proximty brings. MLSE spent millions upgrading the ice and installing new dehumidifiers to improve the situation, and since then there have been no compaints about the ice.

There are parallels between the ACC ice situation and the grass issue at BMO.

If anything MLSE tries to provide the best facilities for its teams (but obviously on the personnel/management side they've been far from successful), and that's why I believe the grass situation will be improved soner rather than later.

Also, they've shown that they are very image conscious. At the ACC, they installed a brand new scoreboard/sound system that cost them millions and represents no direct return for that investment (monetarily-wise). The shitty state of the turf is an image problem for TFC, another reason why I believe it will be a high priority for the suits on Bay and Lakeshore.

Again, none of what I said speaks to the sporting side of the equation. Their record in that regard is what it is.

Agreed. I'm not a fan of mid-season friendlies, but I'm eager to see how this temporary pitch affects the club's push for a permanent grass surface. In my opinion, the precedent has been set, and the club will switch to grass sooner as a result.
