    Default Late Goals

According to the Toronto Star we have allowed in 10 goals in the final 15 minutes this season, including two from last nights game
I thought we were trying to get away from late goals being scored against us. Quite frankly we can do so much better but something is stopping us from doing so.

maybe our fitness guru isn't all he's cracked up to be?

It would be interesting to know how many of the games we gave up late goals were in multiple game weeks.

    Here, Here

Friendly (while it was entertaining) really cost us in fitness. Nana out, Guevara coming out for Velez, and just looking tired because of our lack of depth.

How many people on this board would have made those substitutions last night? How many would have had those players on the field for the last 20 minutes?

marvell wynne wasn't tired when he failed to mark his man.....

and even if it was tiredness of others that contributed, I agree with the notion that it was caused by the 3rd game in 7 days (ie-friendly sandwiched in there).

Paul Winsper is great but he isn't going to make 3 games in 7 days feel like nothing.

I think Winsper is amazing tbh. Look at the amount of injuries this year compared to the last few seasons. We have had fewer long term injuries and faster recovery time from all the boys on the team. Sure they are getting tired at the end of games lately, but there are more games than neccessary in this stretch. He has kept the team playing, unlike having to play scouts due to injuries (although many were away on international duty)

Is it really fitness or stupid gameplanning?

When the goal is to not go in for the killing goal but instead pull a Montreal vs. Santos Laguna then it's horrible gameplanning.

I think that's what these guys are being taught by the coaches.

I don't think so. After the Houston game (I think? I'm too lazy to check), Cummins clearly complained in his postgame chitchat about the team sitting back and not going for more. guess that means they aren't listening to him, or not capable of executing the order??

    Who knows?

Maybe they've been conditioned and won't snap out of it.

What is a given is we've been here so many times that you almost expect TFC to collapse.

Most of all I think it's an "awareness" that things need to be done differently as each half winds down....

but, let's look at the facts....

    TEAM GOALS ALLOWED INTERVALS
    TEAM....................... .GP G 1-15 16-30 31-45 46-60 61-75 76-90 OT
    Houston Dynamo .........19 14. 0...... 3 ......4 ......3 ......1 .......3 ....0
    Chivas USA ................17 15 .0 ......3 ......3.......1 ......2........6.... 0
    Seattle Sounders FC ....18 16 .2 ......1 ......6 ......1...... 3 .......3 ....0
    Kansas City Wizards .....17 19. 2 ......4 ......3 ......3...... 5 .......2.... 0
    Los Angeles Galaxy ......19 20 .4 ......2 ......3 .......4 ......3 ......4.... 0
    Chicago Fire ...............18 20 .5 ......3 ......5 .......1 ......2 ......4.... 0
    New England Revolution 16 21 .3 ......2 ......6 ......3.......3 .......4.... 0
    Real Salt Lake .............18 23 .3 ......5 .....2 .......5...... 3 .......5 ....0
    Colorado Rapids ...........18 23 .0 ......5 .....5 .......6 ......5....... 2 ....0
    Columbus Crew ............19 24 .1 ......3 .....3....... 5 ......3...... 9..... 0
    D.C. United .................19 28 .2 ......2 .....7 .......8 ......4 ......5..... 0
    FC Dallas ....................18 30 .2 ......3 .....4....... 8 ......5...... 8 .....0
    Toronto FC .................19 30 .4 ......6 ......5 ......4 ......1..... 10 .....0
    San Jose Earthquakes ...18 35 .6 ......5 ......6 ......8 ......2 ......8..... 0
    New York Red Bulls ........21 37.6 ......5 .....11 ......6 .....4....... 5 .....0

    GP = Games played; G = Goals against;
and 3 separate 15 minute intervals per half.

    We've all heard about it,
    We've all read about it,
I'm making reference to football IQ. It's a technical & tactical ability. It's about making decisions at the right time reflective of the situation.

Being physcially tired is just a small part of it. Being mentally and emotionally tired are other factors that lead to poor decisions and lapse in judgement.

Given that TFC currently list only 21 players on the roster....
Cronin is away on national team duty - 20 players....
    Sanyang isn't eligible to play until he's 18 (on Aug 1st) - 19 players....
Gala doesn't have the confidence of Cummins - 18 players ...
White, recovering from knee surgery - 17 players ....
Edwards, back up keeper ... 16 players
Gomez, 1 GP for 4 minutes of playing time ...
Ibrahim, 6 GP for 204 minutes of playing time ...

There's plenty of room to share and distribute the blame for such poor "match" management.
