Default Seattle: Entire Stadium allowed to Stand and Support their Team

I was just watching the replay of the Sounders vs DC United game here. Near the end of the game, the ESPN commenter points out that normally only the supporters at one end of the stadium stand for the entire game but that during this game the entire lower bowl remained standing (i.e. everyone except the people in private boxes). It looked and sounded fantastic. I have respect for what's going on in Seattle.

What pisses me off is that even if everyone in BMO wanted to stand for the entire game, thanks to MLSE and its Gestapo, it wouldn't be allowed. Damn it, at the last game a portion of our section was subjected to a "surprise ticket check" -- during the game! "Ignore the play. Get out your tickets now!" What a sin!

But everyone doesn't want to stand, they wouldn't be telling people to sit down unless they were getting complaints from people who deliberately purchased their tickets outside of the supporters section so that they wouldn't have to stand all game.

And I suppose it's something in the water that makes everyone in Seattle capable of working this out amongst themselves.

Hopefully so, but I'd suggest to watch the next game and see if security cracks down. It's a lot easier to send an email to your ticket rep to voice your concern after the fact than it is to confront people face to face when you don't know how they're going to react.

if its any consolation, i just watch tyrone marshall be an attacker on the defending end and score on his own net, just blatantly...like as if it was a mistake but he headed it as an attacker

In my opinion if people sitting were singing they would be a whole lot more effective than the wannabes who just stand and pick their noses every week. But you usually get nothing out of the sitters so carry on...

I took my father to a game last year and our tickets were in 116. He wasn't pleased about having to stand the entire game. I ribbed him a bit for being an "old man" but really, you have to respect the areas of the stadium you are in.

I also know a gentleman in his mid 60's, SSH since Day 1, who just came off some serious surgery and is now back on the mend and loves to attend matches. He had seats in 116 also but purposely purchased seats up in 224 so he could sit and enjoy the game. You gonna tell him to sod off?

In most sections, people stand up when there's something exciting happening and then sit down once the play if over. No one seems to mind that much.

    Holy hell, people...

Year one, only the south end were allowed to stand. In the subsequent two offseasons, TFC have created standing sections in 127, 119, 111 and 110.

The rest of the stadium is seated because NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO STAND.

Deal with it. Respect the rules.

^ yeah, if demand really does increase that much then over time more sections will be designated as allowing standing for the game. And if (IF) expansion ever happens, then that will open up a whole world of possibilities.

Umm who cares! In Europe, only supporters stand up while rest of stadium people are just sitting down watching the game.

I'm a supporter - I don't stand here... That's a misnomer. There are different types designated supporter sections.

There are two sections where standing is 'tolerated'* the away supporters section and the section next to the away supporters. That's all - the rest are not 'supporters'... All 47,000 of them...

Jeez that is alot of non standing seats!!! How much ticket prices usually go for? Is it as difficult to get supporters seats there as it is here?? Just asking hopefully be traveling to England sometime next year and hoping to take in a Magpies game.

you'll likely be expected to sit and watch the game, while cursing chanting or whatever, standing when the play dictates ... ahhh the standers v. sitters threads, does this mean eveything is getting back to normal.

FYI, infering that sitter's are "non-supporters" is kind of stupid

I can see why people might stand at Seattle tho -- their lower bowl goes way back compared to BMO's. Look at the west stand of BMO -- the lower level is only what, 20 rows? Qwest's goes back something like 40 rows or so, and it's not as steep as BMO's west side second deck. So I would guess that the people midway back and further probably have to stand to feel a part of the action.

One thing that's nice about the west side second deck at BMO is a pretty step incline so you feel right on top of the action. I actually find it strange to stand up there, as it feels like any moment I'm gonna tumble over.

Not in the U.K. my friend!!
When was the last time you saw supporters standing at an EPL or SPL match, only when a goal is scored are you ALLOWED to stand, If you stand during the play, the stewards sit you down quite promptly, if you refuse you get escorted out of the grounds, be thankful what we have.
I am in upper 110 and have always been on my feet and was pleased when we became a supporters section.

I'm all for bashing MLSE when i get the chance. But in this case, it doesn't make sense to.

Remember when we were a first year team? and you could stand anywhere you wanted in the stadium? well that changed because of the complaints. Give Seattle some time and they'll have to follow after MLSE on this one. No way you can keep everyone happy if you just let anyone who wants to stand. Why don't we all just bring umbrellas too?

Actually years one and two they let people stand in any sections. This year they've started to enforce it.

I wish you people would stop posting these kinds of threads. Again, I bet there's more hardcore supporters than you, who DONT WANT TO FKING STAND! I being one of them. I thoroughly enjoy sitting there with my 10 buddies and analyzing the tactics and all whats' goin on on the pitch.
