    Nana??? They Took Nana???

If they make him ride the pine I'll be downright pissed.... In fact, I have a strong belief they will make him ride the pine and get the 'experience'

...When in fact "experience" would be better suited to MLS on-field production (in our starting 11)

Nana being named surprised me as well. Good for him but geez.

THis is only the preliminary roster. On the site it says that at minimum 24 hours before the first game the roster will have to be reduced to 23 players.

The Gold Cup Group stage (July 3-July 10) would be over before our first July game (July 11).... of course, if Canada does well and advances out of the group then they would miss games. and its pretty tight there..

Serioux is so beat up. I hope he declines.

If we go out in the group stage, the players would miss 1 game. If we make the quarter-finals, 2 games. If we make the final, all 3 games in July.

IF canada makes it to the final(which I hope they don't) we won't have these guys for our first home game vs. Puerto Rico-
The final is on July 26th and as such I sincerely doubt they will be able to play two days later..
    this is shitty

That's the problem I have with this,
Some players are not in season with their clubs,
    we are...

Hence, the actuall need for the player to be somewhere else,

I would only give them Nana if they assured Toronto FC that they will have him in the starting 11,

Ride the bench there really doesn't do much for Canada, NOR does it help TFC's cause

If they want a spectator to get 'experience' send Gabe Gala

hmm. by my calculation no team loses more than 1 player according to that roster -- except TFC which has 5 called up. No way will those 5 be leaving. That's too much for one team in season. Houston loses Hainault, RSL loses Will Johnson, and DC loses Dejan Jakovic.. but one guy per team is not a hardship.

Maybe we should have a look at this guy Kiriakos for TFC.....

still haven't counted Guevara (CHECK THAT...GUEVARA WAS NOT CALLED UP WTF!!!) or Wynne for us...other teams will lose Americans (and others)...

...this is a preliminary squad (see 4 goalies called up)...they can only carry 23 or maybe 22 players, so i expect nana and possibly harmse to get cut...im surprised about jimmy though...but more importantly NO ROB FRIEND OR DAVID EDGAR (STILL)

they got will johnson's age wrong...he was born in 87

I hope the US can choose Heyduk for the Gold Cup and leave Wynne behind. Wynne's played what, only 1 of 4 games now with the US since he's been gone.
And if he stays with the US and they go far in the Gold Cup, he'll have been gone for almost 2 months. That's unacceptable for a guy who's just going to sit on the bench.

True, but showing respect for the country your club plays in can go a long way.

With the CSA constantly screwing up we need to show well in torunaments like these in order for support of the spot to grow. I just hate the fact that MLS clubs have to deal with playing league games with depleted squads. I wish they could halt play and work around it.

I totally understand why many will not support national play because of the risk it creates for club football

Canada can cap tie Nana in this tournament, I believe he has african ties. Not that he would betray Canada or anything its just good to get him locked down. With new FIFA rules you need to cap all players you can. Also being around defenders such as Stalteri, Klukowski, De Jong, Ledgerwood, McKenna, Jakovic, Hainault will be good for him that is a ton of competition.

Before people start crying about no Rob Friend or David Edgar.... Friend is injured and Edgar is out of contract and going to sign for either Birmingham City or Burnley. Apparently Birmingham though.

This is an excellent squad called and we should be proud of any TFC player called for this team. This team just gets better and better, already since WCQ we've seen the emergence of new potential MNT regulars such as Simeon Jackson, Will Johnson, Dejan Jakovic, Nana Attakora, Nik Ledgerwood, Asmir Begovic. A lot of those guys should have maybe been on the MNT for WCQ but such is life with Dale Mitchell.....

TFC probably isn't going to lose Serioux or De Rosario. Serioux has a lot of competition to start for Canada and they are all younger anyways so why would he risk coming?

De Rosario can be replaced by Josh Simpson or Will Johnson pretty easily.

How does this affect whether or not he would be called up to the national squad? Is it something like: well, he's busy trying to get a new contract so we'll let him do it, because it's good for Canadian football (i.e. a player not playing can't improve) or something like that?
