    Toronto offence explodes
De Rosario nets hat trick to lift TFC to first title and berth in Champions League
    Dan Girard
MONTREAL–It was a complete victory – historic in its size and consequence.
Toronto FC scored a team-record six goals last night to complete an improbable comeback and claim the first title in franchise history, that of Canadian champions.

    Lessons learned
    Ryan Johnston
For Toronto FC, scoring four goals in Montreal was never really the issue. Instead, the issue lay in how the Reds would not concede.
All week the headlines were written that Toronto needed to score this many or that many to win, but very few paid any attention to the fact that conceding just a single goal made the equation almost impossible. Quite the oversight for a team which boasts a minus-3 in goal differential and has not registered a clean sheet since Game 1 of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship.

Call it the Miracle on Turf.
Toronto FC is supposed to be the class of Canadian pro soccer, by dint of their MLS pedigree and squad full of internationals, and Thursday night they proved it in spectacular fashion, demolishing the Montreal Impact 6-1 at a rain-sodden Saputo Stadium.
In so doing, TFC delighted a small but vocal contingent of travelling fans by completing an improbable bid to represent Canada in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Toronto FC pull off miracle, win Canadian Championship
    CBC.sport
Toronto FC pulled off the miracle in Montreal on Thursday, defeating the Montreal Impact 6-1 to take the 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship.
TFC came into the game needing a win by four or more goals to replace the Vancouver Whitecaps atop the final standings, and after a Tony Donatelli penalty kick gave the Impact a 1-0 lead in the first half it looked all but over for Toronto, as the team now needed to score five to take the title.

    TFC pulls off shocker
Reds are Canadian champs after unexpected five-goal win over Montreal
    THE CANADIAN PRESS
MONTREAL -- In the eyes of hometown hero and tournament MVP Dwayne De Rosario, there is little doubt that Toronto FC's miracle win last night to claim the Nutrilite Canadian Championship is the biggest victory in the city's soccer history.
"Definitely, because we haven't won anything," De Rosario said. "This is the only victory, but hopefully there's many more to come."

Reds score six to win trophy
De Rosario gets hat-trick in win over Montreal
    Luke Wileman,TorontoFc.ca
Toronto FC beat Montreal Impact 6-1 at Stade Saputo on Thursday night to win the first trophy in the club's short history and qualify as Canada's representative in the Preliminary Round of the CONCACAF Champions League. The Reds won the Nutrilite Canadian Championship on goal differential after scoring six for the first ever time. Dwayne De Rosario scored a hat-trick, Amado Guevara got two and Chad Barrett also scored as the Reds fought back after conceding an early goal.

Toronto FC win championship in a shocker
Randy PhillipsMONTREAL • It was the sequel to the nightmare.
Toronto FC feasted on the Montreal Impact in a resounding 6-1 victory in the finale of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. The win allowed TFC to edge the Vancouver Whitecaps on goal differential and earn a berth in the 2009-2010 CONCACAF Champions League.
"The team talked all about people writing us off," said TFC interim head coach Chris Cummins. "And we've criticized ourselves in the past for not scoring enough goals, but there is something special building with the club and we're going to use this to kickoff the team.

TFC steals title with six-pack of goals
    SEAN GORDON-Montreal SUN
Because of their MLS pedigree and complement of international players, they are supposed to be the class of Canadian pro soccer, and yesterday Toronto FC showed they are, completing an unlikely bid to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League.
Substitute Chad Barrett's downward header from an 82nd-minute Amado Guevara corner kicker was the decisive goal in a game Toronto dominated for long stretches and ultimately won 6-1 at a rain-soaked Saputo Stadium.

Toronto FC fill the net, win Voyageurs Cup
    Randy Phillips, Montreal Gazette/Vancouver SUN
MONTREAL — The Montreal Impact allowed things to be more nerve-racking than they had to be and paid for it.
Toronto FC needed to score four more goals than the Impact to win Nutrilite Canadian Championship to advance to the coming CONCACAF Champions League tournament, and the Reds did precisely that in a resounding 6-1 victory in a steady drizzle before a paid attendance of 11,561 at Saputo Stadium Thursday night.

    De Rosario's hat-trick lifts TFC

Toronto FC take home Canadian Championship

MONTREAL -- They said it couldn`t be done. It had been generally conceded that there was no chance that Toronto FC could win the Nutrilite Canadian Championship by defeating the Montreal Impact by four goals Thursday night. But not only did TFC do it, they did it one better.
Chad Barrett nodded home a corner kick from Amado Guevara in the 82nd minute to put Toronto FC ahead 5-1 and Guevara scored the insurance goal eight minutes later to make the final score 6-1 at Stade Saputo and give the club its first trophy.

On a sidenote, the Voyageurs Cup is pretty gorgeous, and will be even moreso when it has our name on it!

    Vancouver press view on it...

    http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Wh...626/story.html

    I love the following quote:

Vancouver’s worst fears were realized when Chad Barrett — who couldn’t put a ball into the ocean against the Whitecaps — headed in a corner in the 81st to make it 5-1.

    Screw you hippies!!!!

You can't deny it's true though. Which is what makes it that much better, zero to hero with one head of the ball.

Kinda disappointed in the coverage of last night's game on Sportsnet. Sure, the game was televised but Dobson and Forrest were below par. But the game ends and we go to their nightly sportscast. Lead with the NHL awards, then Martine and Sean basically strap on kneepads and give baseball a long, slow thorough servicing.

After 31 minutes, on comes the soccer, abbreviated highlights and done in less than 40 seconds. No follow up report or on-site interviews from the Montreal crew.

They gave more time and effort to running highlights of baseball and tobacco chewing between American teams from Hooterville and Laramie than they did our national soccer championship.

    Lame.

That was the third game she's reffed for us in the last 2 years (as well as being 4th official a couple of times).

She pretty good, certainly better than a couple of the MLS jokers we've had in the last couple of years!

I was very happy with her officiating last night. A lot better than most of the refs in MLS and a couple of the ones we got in this tournament last year.

I looked everywhere on the boob tube to find more after the game but nothing. Toronto's so called sports radio "the fag 590" had nothing (talking about boxing) so i had to go to a montreal website to catch their aftershow.
I thought with our win all tv channels would be interrupted much like they do when the american president does the state of the union.. I guess were not there just yet

Road support was small but fierce. The 300!

CONCACAF site has last night's result down as a 6-1 home win for Montreal on their CL qualified clubs page.

Though the main page story clearly explains we won. Not connecting the dots down there.
