Default Jorge "El Zurdo" Rojas to Red Bulls

"It's been a roller coaster of a past few months for "El Zurdo." First the Venezuelan was surely coming to New York, then financial talks prevented the transfer from making the deadline. Now, Goal.com is reporting that Rojas is at last close to signing a contract. The $2.2 million salary cap and 2 designated players were obstacles in the Red Bulls' negotiations, but the lure of the American lifestyle may have done the trick. The pay may be less than at Unión Atlético Maracaibo, but "the facilities offered to his family would have loosened the situation."

"Failure simply isn't an option at this stage. TFC pushed its chips to the middle of the table when it splurged on Bradley and Defoe and reinforced its bet by making savvy acquisitions elsewhere. This collection of players is capable of delivering on the promises made during the close season. There are no more excuses available for TFC. Only success will continue the process of atoning for the past and establishing a higher standard for the future." FOX Sports

This is a faily nice signing. Apparently he had a few options elsewhere as well.

Apparently we are the only ones who think it's worth talking about .

Something is up with the salary situation is mls. I think managers are operating firmly under the impression it's going up, because there is no way you'd see something like this previously without using the dp slot.

Even with the amount we spent on players, something doesn't add up. There seems to be a lot more money being spent. Logically if you look at who we dropped and who we picked up, there is no way the salaries are close to the same.

The league will be forced to change the cap rules if certain glory clubs keep trying to sign anyone with a decent history.

This is definitely an important signing for the Red Bulls. I've heard of him before quite a few times whenever I speak to someone about South American football, but past that, I don't know a lot about him. However going by what I've read, he will be, as I said, a nice addition. It seems like he's versatile, and can play at the back or up in the midfield. If he can step into the middle for NY, then he could have a big impact. Any time you are the second most capped player for your country, you are a quality player.
