    Default Philadelphia Union Announces Manager

The newest team in the MLS officially announced Peter Nowak as the first manager in the club's history today. Nowak has been coaching the US U23 team and helping out with the US National team as an assistant. Nowak is the only player in MLS history to win the MLS cup as a player and coach, and captained the Polish national team for 3 years.

The philosophy of having someone who understands the domestic scene and youth, in particular, IMO is extremely wise.

Curious to seeing how this pans out...

The guy won the Cup with the Fire and coached DCU to a title and has been with the US squad for awhile so I think he knows how to win and get players to play to their potential. I'm just wondering if Philly will be like Seattle is right now. If so then 2010 will be a VERY interesting soccer year.

The sooner they get competitive the better for the league. I hope they start very strong, push NY and DC hard.

Nowak is a bit of a psycho and his act will eventually wear thin.

However, for the first couple of years, Nowak will be ok. He's got good contacts and excellent familiarity with senior and U20 level US players.
