Based on the salaries these guys are making, the numbers of lacrosse players in Canada, and the fact most of the guys are also getting money from their NLL teams to play (keep in the game & game shape for very little money) I'd say this'll probably stick around...

They're not looking to get 20,000 or 10,000 for the games, they'd be thrilled if they average 5,000...

Field lacrosse is very popular in northern Ontario, especially in Native Canadian communities. And, many Tier-II Junior hockey players play field lacrosse in the summer to stay in shape...

This might not die out as quickly as people think. It'll just be one of those things in Toronto that if you want to know about it, you will, but the mainstream media will ignore...

For the record, I'm not a lacrosse fan at all, and if I had to watch a game it'd be box-lacrosse over field lacrosse (hits & fights lol)...

Being that it's our national sport, and a good one at that, I'm proud.

So perhaps the occasional training on grass isn't necessarily because the players hate the plastic and MLSE wants "to do the right thing" but because the Lacrosse boys need to train at BMO too? Also, it'll be interesting to see if the pitch is marked with the Lacrosse lines today..

It's quite popular on the east coast of the US, too, most colleges have NCAA teams.

yuppers. I saw the lines. Lets see how dug in there those lines get as the season goes on. I bet they will be pretty noticable come September after it's been put on and taken off 8-10 times more.

Dude I grew up in Orangeville. We won the national and "world" titles every year I was in high school. Half the people who play that sport are just trained apes and the other half are people who dispise those trained apes.

They should move to lamport if they are only going to get 5,000 people a game.

    A few things:

    1. Can they play this on natural grass? ie. can they co-exist at BMO WHEN we get our grass?

    2. Love it or hate it, if they can co-exist on the grass, it's more revenue for the city. They certainly generated more than $150/hour to use the space.

Yeah but not followed by Pro soccer. If Bmo becomes grass it has to become TFC's Field.

And most of these guys are playing while the NLL is in the offseason i think. Its like winterball. I don't think they're in this for big bucks or anything. I enjoy box lacross, not a massive fan but I enjoy going to games, I enjoy the intensity. Field Lacross just doesn't do it for me though. As much as I like Popeye, and respect Gait, theres no way I'd go out to see them there.

And I don't see how a field lacross game would beat up grass any more than a regular practice would. Its not like they're digging into the turf or anything

    The Lines were definitely visible.

They didnt really bother me though.

I watched some of the final four from Foxboro though, that shit was pretty dam entertaining. Much better than the indoor lacrosse (box?).

As an aside, the NCAA Field Lacrosse final is on The Score at 1pm Monday afternoon between Cornell (5) and Syracuse (2). Syracuse is the reigning champs.

    i love outdoor lacrosse.

I watch the NCAA on ESPNU all the time.

I dont follow it, but I enjoy it. More so than box.

Its the way hte game was meant to be played, outdoors. There alot of tactial similarities to soccer (patience).

The pro version added a shot clock, which would speed up the game.

I think its great, but Id still prefer it in lamport, or even in one of the suburbs

^ i meant attendance, which is due to the size of the stadium of course,
And i assume this is only at the final 4 level.

Wow. What a finish for today's NCAA final. Cornell up 9-6 with 4 minutes to go, Syracuse managed to tie it up 9-9 with 4.5s left.

A crossbar hit by Cornell on the first possession before Syracuse goes the other way and puts the ball in the net on what was rapidly turning into a broken play. 10-9 final for Syracuse's 11th championship and the first team to repeat in ~10 years.
