Default TFC to practice on grass

Just heard on the Fan 590 update, practices to be held twice a week in Oakville (I just caught the end so I'm not 100% sure it's Oakville). Cummins said something about not getting a true bounce on the turf etc...

Sorry no links...you can hear it on the 20-20 updates on the Fan.

Mods please delete if posted elsewhere.

Yeah, in the story on the TFC web site about Nana and Wynne coming back from injury, it mentions they trained in Oakville. I think it's a great idea if it saves the boys' feet for the actual games.

    Stupid.

You play on turf but practice on grass. Fuck, how hard is it to be used to the bounce.

    ^ that's what I'm wondering.

If you play on turf, and you are used to it, then you should have a slight advantage over visiting teams that play on grass.

But if you spend all your time practicing on grass, then you don't maintain the home "turf" advantage.

    hmmm

because we won't play away games on grass...

however Let me see... how many 20yr olds do we have in our starting 11?

How about 30yr olds and injury prone?

Practicing on grass makes the most sense... not even thinking about the stupid bounce.

Exactly. They are attempting to cut down the wear and tear on some of the older guys.

Is the new Oakville soccer club training facility up? Did it include grass fields?

I like this, put some pressure on owners, government, etc. kind of a quiet protest against the crap field.

my guess was based on absolutely no thinking. It may very well be this other spot.

This is a huge step in the right direction! And good on Cummins for making his statement to the media instead of just letting us find out about it through reports. If the turf isn’t practical to be practicing on, it certainly shouldn’t be considered practical to play on. This should be embarrassing to MLSE and the city, and should prompt them to do the right thing and lay the sod.

One step forward, two steps to the side the way a drunken person walks. That reminds me of this situation. Why practice on grass when you play most of your games on turf?

    "Most"?

    How about half?

And because turf leads to injury.

Is TFC the only team to play on turf? If so then half, but if they are not then how about most.

Someone worked it out in 2007. The "turf advantage" for a "turf team" works out to 0.2 goals per game, or 1 goal every 5 games. If you play 15 games on turf, that works out to 3 extra goals. Enough of an advantage when standings are tight.

The ideal situation would have the lads practice say 3x per week on grass and 1x per week on turf. That way you stay familiar with the turf, but don't get the wear and tear from constant practice.

not sure why you say "them" here... MLSE wants to put in the grass.
The city is the one who owns the stadium and thus must approve such a move.

i seriously doubt MLSE likes shuttling its players to Oakville twice a week.. and if MLSE thought there was nothing wrong with the current situation, they wouldn't do it.

Yes it is. The indoor facility opened in February and the outdoor pitch is decent.

Carver used to live in Oakville......probably why they started practicing here....LOL. I wonder if Cummins 'happens' to live in Oakville as well........LOL.

No you're right, no other teams use turf. And the shitebulls get their new grass stadium next year leaving just us, NE and SEA.

The move to the 'burbs also brought out some new and not-so-new faces. Canadian international and former Reds player Chris Pozniak trained with the club alongside an unnamed duo known only as No. 23 and No. 25. Coach Chris Cummins was quick to dispel any suggestion that the trio might be around beyond Thursday.
