Fire scorch Toronto FC
PAUL ATTFIELD
TORONTO — What a difference a minute makes.
After nearly an hour of uninspired play from both sides, this contest sprang into life in the 59th minute. Toronto FC had a penalty appeal turned down at one end, and while still bitterly complaining about the injustice, substitute Chris Rolfe was put clean through to open the scoring. Brian McBride then added a second, his sixth goal of the year, 12 minutes later and the Chicago Fire left town with a 2-0 win and their unbeaten record (3-0-6) still intact.

Plenty of chances but nothing to show for it in loss to last undefeated team in the MLS

Even though it was the first loss in seven matches, the post-game refrain was familiar.

Barrett continues to misfire for TFC

Unlike in baseball or hockey or basketball, statistics don't mean much in soccer.
A team can enjoy 70 per cent of the possession and outshoot its opponent and still lose a game, so statistics don't always tell the true story.

TORONTO -- The Chicago Fire washed away the taste of five straight ties with a 2-0 win over Toronto FC on Saturday while the home side was left to rue yet more missed chances in front of goal.
Second-half goals by Chris Rolfe and Brian McBride helped Chicago (3-0-6) leapfrog Toronto (3-3-4) in the Eastern standings. The Fire had not won since April 5 against the New York Red Bulls, settling for ties several times after coughing up goals while in the lead.

There's something about BMO Field that brings out the worst in Toronto FC. It couldn't get lucky in the place if someone hung a red light over the dressing room door.
The Reds had lots of opportunities again yesterday, holding a wide territorial advantage over the Chicago Fire. TFC hit crossbars, Chad Barrett spent so much time in the goal area the Fire could have charged him rent. The Reds shot high, they shot wide, they had shots deflect into the stands. And, when they weren't hitting air, they were hitting Chicago goalie Jon Busch.

Goal drought continues for Reds at home
By Mark Polishuk / MLSnet.com Staff
TORONTO -- BMO Field is known throughout Major League Soccer as a difficult venue for opposing teams to score goals. As of late, Toronto FC's pitch has given the home side problems as well. The Reds' inability to finish chances cost them on Saturday in a 2-0 defeat to the Chicago Fire. Toronto outshot Chicago 11-7 in the match and controlled most of the second half after a listless opening 45 minutes for both clubs.

Toronto FC suffers its first defeat in over a month

TORONTO -- After a game like Saturday's, former Toronto FC coach John Carver would have promised lineup changes and made sure that no player felt safe.
His replacement, Chris Cummins, is not one for such declarative comments. But that did not stop him from speaking the truth about the club's 2-0 loss to the Chicago Fire.
