    Barrett blasts TFC past Montreal
Striker comes off bench to score as Toronto remains undefeated in Canadian championship
    Daniel Girard
Toronto FC coach Chris Cummins said Chad Barrett took it as "a kick in the backside" to be benched for the start of last night's game.
But the striker responded, coming on in the 15th minute as a substitute and scoring the game's lone goal on a brilliant shot late in the first half as TFC knocked off the Montreal Impact 1-0 in the Canadian Championship before 19,872 fans at BMO Field.

Toronto FC downs Impact to remain perfect in Canadian championship

Canadian champions? The best team in the country? The pride of Canada?
    Not on this night.
The Montreal Impact looked like anything but defending champions Wednesday at BMO Field, dropping a 1-0 decision to Toronto FC in a Canadian club championship matchup.
Chad Barrett scored the lone goal for Toronto, handing a limp Impact side a loss in their first game of the tournament.

    Reds exact their revenge
    By RYAN JOHNSTON
TORONTO - The manner in which Toronto FC disposed of the visiting Montreal Impact on Wednesday night implied that the Reds had revenge on their minds.
Chad Barrett scored the only goal of the game in the 35th minute on a beautiful one-touch-and-volley blast from outside the penalty area. While the end score line of 1-0 was flattering to the visiting Impact, a relentless Toronto FC attack made life very difficult for the defending Nutrilite Canadian champions.

    Impactful night for Barrett
    By STEVE BUFFERY
Toronto FC head coach Chris Cummins decided to give Chad Barrett "a kick on the backside" by not starting the dangerous forward last night against the Montreal Impact.
Barrett has had his chances in MLS play this season, but has only scored twice, so Cummins felt that a lesson in humility might be in order for last night's Nutrilite Canadian championship match.
It was certainly a lesson learned.

Barrett comes off bench to score winner
    PAUL ATTFIELD
TORONTO — After 23 games in a Toronto uniform, Chad Barrett may have finally found his best position. For the first time since arriving at BMO Field following last July's trade from the Chicago Fire, the young striker found himself out of the starting lineup last night and relegated to a place on the bench.
But following an 16th-minute injury to Marvell Wynne, who left after pulling his hamstring, Barrett was thrown into the fray against the Montreal Impact, and responded in style, providing the winning margin for the home side in a 1-0 victory.

Barret’s bolt good enough for TFC
    By Eric Koreen,
TORONTO — As Toronto FC coach Chris Cummins prepared to meet the media Wednesday night, he had a question for the reporters before they could return the favour.
“Who’s going to ask me about the (poor) finishing,” Cummins asked.
It was about the only thing Cummins could criticize as far as his side was concerned.

Toronto FC Neutralize Nutrilite Canadian Championship Holders
TORONTO—A beautiful day came to an end and the clouds set in as is customary for a Toronto FC match. The hosts controlled the play from opening kick-off as a ruckus crowd at BMO Field welcomed back TFC from their last league match in Washington. The team did not disappoint in a convincing 1-0 victory over the Montreal Impact, sending a clear message to its two opponents that the Major League Soccer side is here to play for keeps in this year’s tournament.

Reds earn victory over Montreal Impact
Chad Barrett scores only goal of the match
By Mark Polishuk / MLSnet.com Staff
TORONTO -- The early, and unexpected, insertion of Chad Barrett proved fruitful for Toronto FC, as the striker scored the winner in a 1-0 win against the Montreal Impact in a Nutrilite Canadian Championship match on Wednesday night at BMO Field.
When Marvell Wynne left the game with a hamstring injury in the 16th minute, Barrett came on as a substitute and made a great individual effort in accepting a pass, juggling the ball to himself and firing a laser shot into the Montreal goal.

what a great day to be a Red!

TFC beat up the Limp Act, MU is one point from the EPL, and I took my euro loving one-day-will-be-father-in-law to his first game and he loved every second

    coed girl

Good game last night, still think we need to put teams under when we have the chance. We took the foot off the pedal last night a lot, can't do that when we play in our first international competition!

Agreed...except for the Man Utd comment. You know that "membership" in RPB Ottawa may be slightly more difficult with that on your resume.

Just some nonsense and posts removed.

If it's the anniversary, maybe that's why I've been getting damn database errors

My boss told me that the Montreal papers had some news on the game last night.

    Here's a sample

TORONTO - One of the concerns about the Nutrilite Canadian Championship is that because the competing teams play in different leagues, the level of competitiveness would sometimes wane.
The first seven games in the tournament’s history did not bear that out. But last night, that concern became a reality.
After failing to win the tournament last year and registering a mildly convincing win last week, Toronto FC of Major League Soccer finally put its stamp on this tournament. TFC won 1-0 over the Montreal Impact of the lower USL First Division, but the damage could have been much, much worse.
The ball was almost foreign to Montreal on the night, as scoring chances came frequently for TFC.

    Good find.
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
