TFC finally solve Whitecaps

TORONTO -- Toronto got the win but squandered more than a few chances Wednesday night, needing a great late save by Stefan Frei to preserve a 1-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the opening game of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship.
The game should not have been that close. Toronto outshot Vancouver 12-2 (9-2 in shots on target).

Appropriately enough, it was a Canadian, Vancouver native Harmse, who provided the goal for Toronto FC as the MLS representatives downed the Whitecaps, 1-0, in the first game of the Nutrilite Canadian championship, played in front of 19,811 at a cool and wet BMO Field.

Whitecaps loss has a silver lining



The mood in the Vancouver Whitecaps dressing room moments after Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Toronto FC was disappointment. It could have been one of relief .
Players could have been thankful Toronto didn't win the opening match of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship by a wider margin. That's because goal differential could play a vital role in the final outcome of the three-team tournament between the Whitecaps, TFC and Montreal Impact.

That's the smallest crowd I've seen at a TFC game…I doubt there was even 16k.

There were tons of empty seats in my section as was the case in the West Stand.

The four seats in the row in front of ours were empty…and the row in front of that and the next!

We will face a stiff challenge in DC, so hopefully the lads will be up to the task. TFC doesn't do well against possession-oriented teams like DCU.

hope DeRo will be okay, he kinda pulled up a little bit in the last few minutes last night. Don't know if anyone else noticed. He did a fantastic job last night, you could definitely see a glaring difference between the levels. As much as USL pundits like to say their league is superior in all aspects (I want to laugh all the time), but level of play is different. Vancouver is one of the top teams in USL1 this year already through the first 5 matches and won it last year. They were easily dispatched last evening (well should have if we could finish).

We were lucky to get away with the win.
I am over the moon at the points, as this tournament is what I really care about . . but.

It was not a good performance (again) we can be SO much more.
When will we see a muliy TFC Goal game at BMO?. . . . still waiting.

Last night was a GREAT chance to stomp on the necks of Vancouver.
and send a message to those Impact Charlie Uniform November Tangos.
