Phillys site had a poll. which mls player would get over 100 goals, they had 2 legit players...one with maybe an outsdie shot Ralston at 70 and'DeRo at 52....DeRO? unless he start baning them in at a huge rate that would happen...he had 7 last season and at the pace would take another...6.5 season!! and DeRo wount stay around that long..

Philadelphia City has a good ring to it...Union??

If this is the kit, the logo and home shirt kind of strike me as a thinly-disguised Leeds ripoff...

Union is the best out of that list. I hope they go with that. City, United, FC, SC, AC etc are nice and all but they are generic as hell. Union would be awesome.

Although I hope they intend on naming it Philadelphia Union FC. PUFC has a nice ring to it

In my opinion, the greatest tragedy would be for a city as politically and culturally historic as Philadelphia to simply rip-off the name of a high-profile existing European club (AC Milan) or create a newer stylish identity with no regard to civic heritage.

Philadelphia Union or Philadelphia City would both be cool, but I would rather see something more imaginative. I still stand by Independence FC.

    Agreed

MLS clubs need to start building their own identity.

In a perfect world, the team would call itself Philadelphia Athletic. But since MLB would sic their vulture lawyers on them if they did, I'd go with Philadelphia Union. It has a nice Euroy feel to it and it would be an original name for an American soccer side.

Going with AC or As would just make the newest MLS team look like a sad imposter. My mates in England laugh so hard at some of the stupid fucking names in MLS. REAL Salt lake? I mean come on, seriously? Some of the franchise names which are typically American are also pretty stupid in my book (that goes for all sports not just MLS though, eg the Mighty Ducks, etc), but I still think MLS teams should be building their opwn identity, whatever that is, rather than ripping off something utterly meaningless like Real this or AC that. Generic terms like FC, City etc you can understand, but I would love to see Philly go with Union, Independence or something similar over a hopelessly sycophantic and loving glance at an Italian or Spanish side.

Using "Real" does seem a bit manufactured for Salt Lake but I have no big problem with it, it's better than a typical NA name for a football team. Which by the way, Mighty Ducks is pretty lame, but I would add this team to contend for the title of stupidest team nickname: the Miami Heat. I mean, what the hell? It's not tangible, and just refers to a temperature which is basically the speed at which atoms move. Just awful.

But getting back on point, Union would be my favourite were I voting.

And, apperantly, this will become the logo and colours of Philadelphia Union:

Mind you, I got that from MLSRumors, so who the hell knows?

I'm guessing the 13 stars have to do with the 13 American colonies? Because that's a bit presumptuous if they're intended to be future league titles, isn't it?

Adidas were very, very smart to get the central MLS contract for all the franchises. This is the fastest growing sport in North America. They are getting massive exposure with each new franchise that opens up in MLS and soon there will be kids wearing adidas MLS gear coast to coast in both the US and Canada.
