Great number. But I am wrong or did we not get nearly half a million in the same slot (ie right after a CBC hockey playoff game) for a DCU Saturday afternoon game in 2007?
In any event, that's a lot of fannies. Wish we'd given them something to enjoy.

my only issue is with team performance during these big ratings games.
This game, and the last one one with a big tv audience, were both weak efforts on the pitch.
Just bad timing, but it's not good when you get a lot of people watching a poor show.
What was the number for the second hour? Is this a huge spike in the first quarter hour that changed the channel 5 mins in averaged out? Paging Mr. Molinaro..

I don't know the hour breakdowns, but needless to say having the Crosby-Ovechkin game as the lead-in played a big part in the rating - which is great, because obviously people who normally don't watch MLS decided to tune in and stuck around.
No better way to build an audience and introduce new people to the game.
I believe we have one more game coming up with a playoff game as the lead in....

Maybe it was having hockey as a lead-in, or maybe it was the thirst for a winning team here but Toronto FC pulled in its biggest audience of the season Saturday. Its 1-1 draw with Columbus attracted an average audience of 261,000 on CBC. Overall this year, TFC is averaging 178,000 viewers on the public network, a vast improvement over 2008.
Here are the top-rated sports events of the past weekend, according to BBM Nielsen Media Research overnight ratings.

now if we can play well and dominate every time we're on CBC
imagine when Vancouver gets in, and if Montreal gets in.. Montreal vs TFC, Vancouver vs TFC, Vancouver vs Montreal... they could get 300K-400K ratings or more for those matchups on CBC.
They'll need to do Soccer Night in Canada on CBC every week

Numbers like this helps the expansion cause for other Canadian cities. One of Garber's clear and stated goals through Canadian expansion is a lucrative Canadian national television contract.
I'm not talking to anybody from CBC unless they bring Radio 2 back the way it was. I'm still very very very very pissed.
